9 years out, taste changes, no appetite

I am 9 years out from my lap RNY and I went from 297 to about 135 lbs now. I've lost a lot of weight quickly over the last 3 or 4 months and I have absolutely no appetite for anything. Everything tastes way too sweet for me. Even diet soda or Crystal Lite tastes like syrup. Has anyone far out experienced these taste changes?

Sudden weight loss with no apparent reason is a concern.  Have you had blood work done, focusing on Blood Glucose, etc?  A good place to start with your PCP.

How much is a lot of weight loss over the past three or four months? Have you had any other illnesses, or seen your doctor? You haven't given us many details.

Have you started any new medications lately? Some of them have effects like that; when I started lithium, anything carbonated tasted like cough syrup. I believe thyroid medication and some antibiotics can do this as well, and there are probably others.

Apparently zinc or B12 deficiencies can cause this as well. Have you had blood work done recently?

I'm no vet, but it sounds like it could be a medical condition causing you to lose weight quickly.  How much have you actually lost in 3-4 months?  Do proteins taste sweet to you too?  Have you had any lab work done lately?

I hope you can figure this out, but a visit to your doctor is probably the best path to take.  Good luck

I went from 170 to 135. It's scary. I'm a little worried.

Actually my thyroid is undertreated...  so I should be gaining weight! Jeez. It could just be depression but I'm not sure.

It's always best to rule out physical issues first. Get complete labwork done, have your thyroid checked, etc. Then you'll know what's next.

I agree with the others- ask your doctor. Get a full set of labs done. If you are on any medications, perhaps the dosages need to be changed.
