Friends, coworkers and family don't approve of my plan for WLS

My weight fluctuates it always has, lose 10, gain 20, stay consistent , then gradual gain, lose weight then double it in gain. My whole life I've felt pudgy, large and overweight. Look in my family photos who's the fat one, me. Look in pictures with friends who's the fAt one. That would be me. Even of my coworkers I am the largest woman in the tech Dept.

So I've started the process with the Edmonton Weight loss program. And it's fairly big in my life do I've been sharing my journey with friends, family and coworkers who ask.

so other than my friends who have had it done, and my husband and my one coworker (my boss who is much larger than me) everyone else is fairly negative about it. And have been actively trying to talk me out of it. I am working lose weight slowly and it's coming off slowly but I've been there before and worry about the upswing that always seems to happen.

Should I stop talking about the journey with them?

Yeah, keep your personal medical decisions to yourself. And if none of your family or friends wants to do the surgery, then tell them not to do it.

It's your life. Your decision.

Go for it.

You're gonna have negative people no matter what. So do what you want to do, because you dont have to answer to them. You will be much happier with the weight off :) You will never be able to ease everyone, no matter what you do. But as far as your question, yeah I wouldnt keep talking to people who dont support you. Their negativity will only bring you down. Good luck :)

I would only speak to them about it if they ask about it. Otherwise, keep doing what you are doing. Even then you don't have to say much as it is your decision. And tune out any negativity, all of us go through that. Oftentimes people 'hear' something about WLS and so that is the only example they have out of it. It could be completed misinformation they heard or someone that didn't follow their plan.

Yup, I'd quit chatting with them. You will change their views about it as successfully as they will change your decision to have surgery.

Only persons in work I've told is 3 former colleagues, who I know support me. No one else will know.

For me, I let people know that my decision isn't up for debate. I had made my decision and I expected their support or their silence. End of story.

It's your body and your life.

Anyone who has never struggled with weight issues has no possible way of understanding the struggle that we face on a daily basis. If you've tried reasoning with them, then it's time to tell them to either get on board or get the hell out of your way. Tell them that it is your decision, you feel it is the best one for you, and if they love you then they will support you in it. simple as that.

By the way...best decision I ever made!!!
