Anxiety over PCP visit

I've been anxious all morning - and last night too. I am seeing my PCP to ask for an ultrasound (pretty sure I'm having gall bladder issues). The anxiety has nothing to do with the gall bladder or the outcome. It has to do with any time in the past that I've had to see a doctor. I keep telling myself, "He's not going to chastise you about your weight. He's not even going to mention (in a nice, subtle way), that you're morbidly obese." I don't have to be afraid of the scale at this particular visit. I'm not going to get the lecture about a lowfat diet or a suggestion to join Weigh****chers. But it's so ingrained in me. The embarrassment...the fear. I know a little worry is a good thing. It keeps me on track...

Didn't know if anyone else could relate.

I get it. I'd do stupid things to shave a few pounds off before a doctor visit. Like it would make a difference.

My last PCP was in a big practice. There were maybe 10 exam rooms. Only one of them had a scale that went over 350, so if I was put in any other room, they couldn't weigh me. I wished so badly to avoid that room.

We all did stuff like that, in some way or other.

But you sure as heck don't have that issue now. Make this visit a victory dance!

OMG I completely forgot about the last minute dieting I used to do before the visit.

Well, now there's a different issue. I'm a little below where I want to be now, and I don't want to get chastized if I gain a few next year. So, before my next checkup, I'll put a bunch of rocks in my pockets, so I weigh more. Then if I gain a few, next year I'll weigh the same, without the rocks.

Personally, rolls of quarters worked well for me Grim. The very first time I looked into surgery (before discovering my company excluded the coverage), I went to the first appointment with several rolls of quarters in my pocket because I had heard that one of the requirements was to lose a certain percentage of my weight - and I was afraid I wouldn't be able to do it. No tricks the second time around though - I did everything by the book!)

YES I can relate! Some of my best diet attempts pre-op were motivated by a upcoming visit to the PCP. Ugg the anxiety I worked up in my head over the "lectures". And like you said, they didn't really say much or get down on me-- in reality is was gentle encouragement, but in my head I was being lectured by my mother again!

I avoided the PCP as best I could, unless my weight was in a respectable place, then I'd want to go in and show off LOL.

Good luck getting the gallbladder issue figured out. I'm wondering how many who've had WLS were able to keep their gallbladder? Seems like eventually everyone gets them out.

Mine was taken out when I was on Jenny Craig years ago. In fact, I got a check in the mail after a class action lawsuit was settled again JC. My check was a grand total of $16.42! Whoo Hoo, I was rich!

I just posted in RNY about this. I have surgery today and my doctor gave me a script for a medicine to prevent gallstones but even with insurance it was going to cost about 200 bucks. Why wont they just take it out at the same time. It should be an option, that way we can avoid another surgery, more anesthesia and missed work in the future.

Rar. My reply got lost. Short version - totally relate.

Now, it's actually a bit annoying when I see my PCP since she goes on and on and on about my awesome weight loss and I'm just thinking "shut up so we can talk about why I'm here!!"

Your doctor will be so happy that you have done so well. You should be enjoying your visits these days, because you can get on that scale and prove that you have been diligent. Good luck today, you'll be great!
