i DO hate whiny people, but i am SO discouraged. Still have a terrible looking stomach, all purple.  I was awake for about an hour and a half in the middle of the night, and this morning, barely made it out of the shower i was s o weak. i'm just so discouraged. I wanted to walk, but just cant manage it at all.

Seems strange that the surgeons office hasnt called to check on my progress, since i did have a bleed from my spleen during the VSG. just a bad day. a setback. is this normal?

I have had a variety of surgeries and I can tell you - the "witching" hour seems to be a week out. Are you still taking pain killers. After a week of a narcotic, you are going to go through emotions to the Nth degree. If you are, time to start weening off and take tylenol to get you through to the next pain killer. Im only assuming, I always ask for more than I need but really good at knowing when enough is enough and need to ween off. Also to be all black and blue from the bleed from spleen. Be gentle on yourself. Some days just having your scheduled meal plan and  a shower is all one can do when they are all bruised in the abdomen. Try a little walk tomorrow, maybe fresh air is all you need. I had VSG 25 years ago. I still remember my mending days. But wait til you are healed and the weight not pulling you down. Its amazing when you go to stand up and you practically fly up to the ceiling. Or at least it felt like that...I was light as a feather and walks became jogs with no exertion. Its the purple stomach that is getting you down. Its all uphill from now on. Call your surgeon's office and ask when do you see them again. You dont want to be forgotten.

Oh dear -- your feelings are all in the realm of normal --

I promise it does get better.  I felt like a mack truck hit me about a week out.

Thank you Kat.  reassurance is always wonderful. it's good to see other people have similar issues.  I think it would be so much better if the surgeons offices/vsg prep training etc would tell people something more than the 'rosier side' of the issue.  It would be great to know that my black and blue belly is normal, etc.  there aren't many of us that can have surgery on one day, come home two days later, and mow the lawn or walk the dog. lol

I don't think I felt like I wanted to walk, but I could walk slowly.

It's good you go back 1 week, post op. Hope you get good news and begin to feel better.  My friend kept reminding me - you had Major surgery and general anesthesia, it will take some time.   Plus, if you are older, it may take an extra week or two.

My stomach was bloated and had huge dents in it.  I remember my husband asking coyly, "are those dents going to go away?" and I exploded at him...

I was pretty sore -- the first week I pretty much sat, walked around the room and slept.

I went back to work at 2 weeks (on my feet) and was so exhausted when I came home that I barely could move.

I promise, it gets better!!

I just asked my husband today... Do you think all these dents are permanent ... I'm glad you posted that

Well, I looked like I have 4 or 5 navels.  HAHA.

I am happy to report that my stomach looks totally normally now (except for the excess skin) and you can barely see the scars from surgery.

:-)
