Hi everyone,

I had a gastric bypass a long long time ago!!  I have moments where I think I can eat a big meal... well need advice to keep me reminded to watch my portions... Would like all suggestions.

Thank you.

You can eat a big meal now.  Sometimes it helps me to eat off of a saucer instead of a dinner plate.

Weigh and tracking my portions is what works for me. Otherwise, my eyes are still bigger than my stomach.

I still use the smaller plate/bowl/silverware method as well as weighing and measuring.

Curious to those who have replied.  How far out and when you measure, how much are you measuring out.  Love the 5 day meat test site!!

I'm 2.5 years out, and I usually measure about 3oz of meat. That's enough to just hit the start of "full" for me.

I'm 3 weeks out and am still learning how to eat such small portions and know what full feels like. My brain wants to eat more than my stomach will allow. I'm just learning to pay close attention to my body's signals.

Same here.  I'm 3 weeks out also.  I find that the slower I eat by chewing thoroughly and putting my fork down the quicker I get that "full feeling".

At only 3 weeks post-op, you can't rely on the feeling of fullness. The nerves in your stomach have been cut, and so you won't feel that sort of restriction for quite a bit once things have healed up.
