Thinking about how I ate before surgery

I was thinking about how I ate before my bypass, and it's crazy to think how I ate food like it was going out of style.

I used to be able to eat a sub, fries, six slices of pizza, and three cans of Coke in one sitting. Now, I have one scrambled egg and am full for hours.

If I kept eating like I always ate and didn't have this surgery, I fear what would've become of me. I'm happy I am developing new healthy eating habits!

It really is amazing to compare how we used to eat with how we need to eat to survive. On a bad day I eat half of the food that I ate before surgery.

Isn't it crazy to remember the amount of food you used to be able to put away?  I remember getting a large sub sandwich from Togo's, two bags of chips (one for each half, yanno) and then a cookie for dessert.  And of course a Coke Zero.  Gotta save calories!

Right back at you.  My old eating habits scare me.

It's embarrassing, too, because I used to indulge like this in a restaurant, sometimes.

It feels good not to have to eat a meal for ten to feel satisfied.

I agree - I often ate this much and was not full.  I would try to eat like me thin friends at a rest - slowly, take some home, hoping that I would feel satisfied - not stuffed, not overfull, just not hungry.  They say if you wait 20 min, you will feel full. Not me - when I got home and was till hungry, I would have the leftovers. Thank God for WLS.  (Not that it can't be improve, but I'd be heading for a wheelchair without it)

Ha!

I used to do the same thing--box up half my meal because all my friends were. Then, I'd either stuff it in my face the second I got home, or even eat it in the car!

My worst time was after my husband went to bed.  I would stay up to sew or watch TV and would search for food to stuff in my face.  It was always strange combinations of crackers, bread, jams, jellies, peanut butter or butter and anything else I could find that tasted good at the time.  Sometimes I would eat a half a bag of shredded cheese, or two or three yogurts at a time.

Thank goodness I don't do that anymore and the most I eat at night is a sugar free popsicle.

One big plus for you right now is that you SEE how it was and what it needs to be now!  That means you know that going back to old habits like that will do you no good.  This is a life change and the first change is in your head!  GREAT JOB!!!
