When did you all stop takin your narcotics? This is day 5 i have not done any bowel movements. Gross I know but I feel like my body is missing a vital step. I've taken milk of magnesia and nothing. So, what is the average time?

Stop when you're no longer suffering with pain.  Or try Tylenol to see if that manages the pain.  Take stool softener morning and night, and try Miralax daily.  You've got to get things moving.

I stopped pain meds the day I left the hospital. I still have a brand new bottle untouched. A BM takes a while because you arent eating. You can mix miralax in some Gatorade or something if you want.

Miralax is my miracle "drug". It does take some time to work though. My first BM was 7 days post op and I literally had to call in sick bc it was the most painful experience ever.

For all the pre ops - start miralax 2-3 days prior to surgery!!

Try going without a hydrocodone today. If you start having pain, start with a Tylenol and see if that does the trick.

As others have said, Miralax is probably the best choice to get things moving again. You can also try a softener like Colace, I take it pretty much every day and it keeps things from backing up, so to speak.

The day of surgery.  Never had any pain, a little discomfort, but not enough to have to take pills for.

I was on opiate pain killers last year for a back injury.  I took them for 15 days and did not have a BM during that time.  I had to get off the opiates to start getting back to normal.

Two days after surgery

I didnt have a poop for I think 4 days, but it wasnt very solid due to all the liquids. That lasted a few weeks, then it firmed up. Now its every other day on average. Miralax helps. a lot.

I would try to stop the pain meds now.  I drink hot tea before I go to bed, you can get it at the grocery store called "Smooth Move", love the name, I usually add one pack of stevia to it and it taste good, but it makes me go the next morning.

However, if you haven't gone since you got home you may need something a little strong, try a suppository.  My doctor had me do that right after surgery and it worked.

I stayed medicated for the 3 days I was in the hosp, but only needed one  or 2 doses after I got home - one that day and 4 days later.  WHen I had oxy for plastics I was on them longer and had the plugged up feeling.  I added Benefiber to my protein shakes and greek yogurt and it took 2-3 days to get feeling like everything was going through. I kept the Benefiber up until a few days after I stopped the pain meds.
