Not long now, how is the pre op diet going? I had my surgery Oct 3rd so from a newbie for what its worth here are a few things I have experienced:

  • Prepare to be gassy, like I was never really gassy but now I'm unapologetically gassy cause it gives such relief
  • Walk and move as much as you can as it helps so much
  • I had reflux/nausea so bad my first night home sleeping in my own bed. I've bought a trI pillow and am resigned to sleeping upright for the immediate future while I continue to take my PPI and anti nausea meds. It has helped me stay comfortable while healing so it might be something to consider getting yourself
  • Get yourself organised and have a watch or timer handy. Day 4 was the worst for me so far - tired, weak and having to do everything on a schedule but now on my own at home.
  • I pour 30 ml of water into a glass every 30 mins and sip. Straws and sipper bottles seem to give me more air (gas) I found this easier to track what I need to be taking in. Also play around with temp as luke warm anything has been more soothing and easier to take in for me.
  • Keep using the forums, I check for advice on all kinds of things (I dont even post, just put key words in and guaratee there will be others who are going thru or have shared something that is meaningful) and having a sense of community really has helped me.
  • Finally be kind and compassionate with yourself. I did my research and thought I had an idea of what this surgery would entail but the reality is it is a massive thing to go thru and you are gonna have to roll with the punches.

I wish you all the best on your journey, it's an exciting decision and time in your life. By no means an easy option but we choosing health is so important. Go for it!
