Hi, if you are on a medication that causes withdrawal you should titrate down slowly to avoid withdrawal. Give your doctor a call. They can help. Hope you feel better soon.

I wish I would have known this before I stopped my antidepressants in July. My Doctors never mentioned anything so I just stopped and now I am trying to figure out how long before it gets better,

Also by the time I tried to reinstated the medicine would not work and made me sicker,

Thanks for the reply,

If you have been off the medication since July you should be through with any withdrawal. Stopping and restarting meds on our own is not a good idea. Medication generally should be given a good 3 to 4 week trial before asking for a change. Most general side effects like headache, dry mouth and nausea go away after a few days. If your clinic has it you can ask for genetic testing to see what meds you may do best on. They swab your cheek and send it off to a lab. It's expensive if you don't have insurance that covers it. Also if you have family that has done well on a certain med you may do good on it too. Hope this helps. Take care.

OMG thank you for the reply Jen, I actually didn't know that they could do testing to figure out what medicines work for us, I am been seeing  a general practitioner but after 4 attempts with 4 different antidepressants  she decided I was better off with a physiquiatrist who decided to put me back on the original medicine which did not work is been since 10/10 with no antidepressants and I had more than just a headache and dizziness I had a lot of other things going on and I really want it to stop, I am kind of frightened to go back and start something new,

I stopped Effexor cold turkey and it was aweful for about 3 weeks, then gradually got better over the next 3 weeks or so.

I wouldn't recommend it.  Brain zaps anyone?

I was only on it for a year, for menopause symptoms, so not too long.  I didn't feel bad on it, and I never intended to be on it long term.  I would always recommend a slow withdrawal.
