so we are in DC and visited the new African american museum. They have one display dedicated to Oprah, another dedicated to the Obamas. Each display has a dress donated by Oprah /Michelle Obama. I looked at both dresses - but was proud to note that Oprah's dress (the one she wore in the final episode) would be too big for me. (I'd guess it was a 16-18). Where as, I think Michelle Obama's dress (the one she wore the night he was elected the first time) would fit me. ( I'd guess it was a size 8- which is not my size- but maybe it's a 10??) It looked like it would fit though.  Ya'll don't know how badly I wanted to check the tags-- damn that protective glass!

And my son even made a comment that "my arms look strong" :-)  NSV's are everywhere people!

I wonder--Michelle Obama and I are about the same height*, and at my skinniest (6'1", 140, BMI 18.5), I wore a 14. (I'm hoping the situation for tall, slender clothes is better than it was back then!) That said, what a wonderful NSV, and what a great trip! I can't wait to visit the museum myself!

*I've really enjoyed having such a tall, beautiful, accomplished woman as First Lady!

I've given up trying to rationalize size/weight. It doesn't make sense to me that at 140 6'1" you were in a 14. I know women who could wear a smaller size but don't out of comfort.

I wear whatever hangs well and isn't too constricting. which currently is a 12, on rare occasion a 10.

I also think sizes have changed some in the last 25 years. When my sister lost a bunch of weight and was fitting in a modern size 16, she got out a favorite outfit from her youth in a 16--way too small. All I know for me is that it took a 14 to be big enough even though I was skinny for my height.

I saw one of her inauguration gowns at the National History Museum last summer and I think I could have fit into her shoes! The dress was part of the First Ladies display and it was fun to look at the dresses and guess what would fit and what wouldn't. Check it out if you have time.
