I use this desk cycle.  It has very good/powerful resistance and it has been excellent.  I can't recommend it enough.  It is more expensive but has been well worth the price.

Thanks for the recommendation! I'm borrowing one right now that's not nearly as nice and the pedaling is really rough, so I think I'd want something fancier. This one looks great, thanks for the recc!

It's a little heavy to be truly portable, but the resistance was surprising so I assume that's why.  I need a knee replacement and it definitely meets the PT's requirements.  It's survived me beating on it for two years anyway :)

Darn thing weighs like 20 pounds though!

Sorry don't know anything about the pedal bike.   But, if you are doing RAGBRAI, it is a great ride.  I've done it about 8 times.  It is a hard ride with the heat, hills and distance.  Meeting all the friendly people in Iowa can't be beat.  I have gone on many week long state bike rides , but we "cyclists" are just tolerated.  On RAGBRAI the small towns make enough money to buy a fire engine or something else they need. They appreciate the incoome from the 10-15 thousand cyclists and support staff on the ride.  Have fun.

Yup, I'm totally doing RAGBRAI! I was born in Iowa and most of my family still lives there, so it'll be a big rolling family reunion. My dad rode it two years back so we've got at least a little bit of experience, and we've got family to stay with in two of the overnight towns. I'll only be able to do the first 3 or 4 days, but I'm really looking forward to it :)

I have one, I find it awkward and don't use it.  I do use the treaddesk we have at work...love it.
