4 week Liquid diet? How did you do it?

How did you get through your liquid diet? I am determined to make things easier for my surgeon and stick to this. I will be starting it in a few weeks. I can have as much broth as I want but only 2 protein shakes a day as well as some sugar free jello, some orange juice and 1/2 cup fat free cottage cheese.

Obviously this is significantly less then what I usually eat.

How did you do the liquid diet while still doing all of the active things you do each day like your full time active job and still have enough energy?

For example, I have 4 children including a rambunctious 2 year old boy. I am very busy chasing him around as well as the other duties of a homemaker and caring for my other children.

Also, I'm not going to have enough energy to exercise on this liquid diet.

Whenever I restrict my calories this much at my BMI of 53, I am sick and I have to lay down because I feel so hungry.

I just don't know how I'm going to this and still do what I need to do each day.

The only real answer is that you pull up your boot straps and you do it because you know that the surgery is going to change your life. My liquid pre-op was only 10 days, but it was still hard and the 2+ weeks post op have been harder. I ate a lot of Jello, added a lot of Mio flavoring to my water and had a lot of sugar free popsicles too. 

I actually didn't feel bad at all, like I had anticipated, I was getting so much protein! I was getting about 600-800 calories per day from 2 shakes plus a 1/2 cup of 2% cottage cheese or a 120 calorie yogurt and then the ancillary calories from the jello/popsicles. 

I'm down 22lbs and 15 days post op and I already feel and look so much slimmer. It's just worth it!

Keep thinking of the goal before you, and tough it out.  That is about the best I can tell you.  Every time you feel some of those hunger pangs creeping up on you, drink some fluids.  They will help you get through it, even if you spend more time in the ladies room.

I was struggling with it until my nutritionist gave me the best idea. She told me I could go out and purchase my favorite soup which is Progresso Chicken noodle. She told me to go ahead and purchase my favorite soup and just strain it. Let me tell you, it definitely has more flavor than 'broth' and made it much easier. What about sugar free popsicles. I'm surprised about orange juice. I had apple juice but it was deluted 1/2 water and 1/2 applejuice. Good luck!

I didn't have to make it as long as you, but post surgery, I did the same thing with straining soups... the hot and sour soup from our local Chinese restaurant was like a gourmet meal to me!

You'll have to get crafty to make it, but you can!!! 

The after effects are so worth it!!!

Thanks for the great idea! Yeah, I was surprised about the OJ as well. She said it was for getting enough carb intake.

It gets a lot easier after day 2.  Your body has to make the transition to burning fat rather than your food.  It is better to start the process before surgery.  If you have ever been on Atkins, you will find that you are weak and probably sick while your body makes the transition.  You might want to start on a Friday so the worst time is on the weekend when you have more support.  

It seems impossible, but most of us have done the liquid diet. I watched you tube videos of My 600 pound life and ate a box of popicles a day at first.  Later in the journey, you can look back to this time and use it as a strengh of characterto help you when all your food cravings and head hunger are rampant and want to derail your progress.  This is your once in a lifetime chance to finally become thin and be able to maintain the weight loss.
