Will be interesting to see as I go for a Dexa next Monday. Ironically Im using mine more for ammo for a diagnosis(my bone density and muscle mass is a very rare side affect). Cause truely... Im 5'9", 223lbs, have a 32" waist (think about that...average american female weighs about 175 and wears a size 16...I wear 10-12s @ 223lbs!)and I sink in water. Only thing that causes one to sink is density.

I enjoy being a freak of nature, lmao

Interesting, because I'm probably pretty average 5'4 and 180lbs and am 10-12 now 33" waist 2 weeks ago last time it was measured.

You are pretty tall so should weigh more at the same clothing size. Let me know how it goes.

ive decided to get a dexa scan too can't wait to get a baseline.

Youre still very new post op (well revision). Im 11.5 years post op. So Im more than assuming you will get smaller for sure !

I wish I could have had one pre op, but oh well. Im doing it out of curiosity and for a proper diagnosis, without Drs having to take my word about what other drs have said when I get xrays (one said I had bones of heat treated steel).

While being obese can cause us to have a little bit denser bone from weight carrying, but not excessive without an additional reason. Im one of those rare people they want for testing to try to figure out a way to treat osteoprosis.

Bones of steel is awesome!...I can only hope I have the same, but I doubt it.

BMC is bone mineral content. The weight of just the minerals in the bones, not the weight of the bones themselves. Bones contain a lot of things besides minerals.

6'3" tall, male.

Highest weight was 475. RNY on 08/21/12. Current weight: 198.

M1 -24; M2 -21; M3 -19; M4 -21; M5 -13; M6 -21; M7 -10; M8 -16; M9 -10; M10 -8; M11 -6; M12 -5.

So, theres an additional "_" amount of pounds of weight included in my lean mass weight, in addition to the BMC column

Theres 3 weights that add up to my total weight... lean, fat, BMC. I get BMC is not my entire skeletal anatomy weight. But its part of the total, and cannot be double dipped.

Or maybe I'm the only one that is seeing that? Dunno

Had my DEXA this morning and verified with the tech who sat with me that the BMC is just the weight of the minerals in our bones, not the entire skeletal weight. Though the rest of the skeletal weight will be mixed in with the lean mass weight.

I'm a little frustrated with my DEXA results. My bone density is Awesome, but I really need to start working out. I've lost 9 pounds of lean mass in the last 11 months and my body fat percentage actually went up .6lbs.

This is the first I've ever heard of DEXA scans. Would love more information. Is this prescribed through doctor and/or covered by insurance? Seems like it would be good info to have.

Thanks,

Anne

Hi! I had heard about it from this site as well, so googled basically "dexa (my area)" and found a groupon actually. I'd try that, they cost about $100 to get a scan. Dont need a prescription from a doctor, some scans are done in their own facility that does other testing like resting metabolic rates, VO2 levels for target heart zones, etc. That was my experience :)
