I'm having surgery on 5/5 and planning a Disney vacation for the end of July beginning of August. I'm a little worried that I will not be able to handle it so soon after surgery? But my family really wants to go and honestly so do I, I'm just worried about the 17 hour car ride and all that Disney walking. Has anyone gone on vacation soon after surgery? Thanks in advance for any tips or opinions

i went to Animal Kingdom and Epcot 3 months after surgery.I live in St.Louis and the car ride wasn't bad for me.We stopped often to ge****er to drink, bathroom and walk a little.

At the parks just make sure you stay hydrated.Drink, drink and drink some more.Especially in summer.Take a rest at park if needed. We only rode a few mild rides.

I'm 24 days out and aside from being a pain to feed because I'm on soft foods, I could physically handle it tomorrow. 3 months? You'll have a great time.

oops,

I had VSG. Not sure if anything would be different for you...

You should be fine. Planning will be important -- drinking enough, and meals. You may still get tired more easily, especially with that much activity. It wouldn't hurt to schedule a daily nap.

But really, does it ever hurt to schedule a daily nap?

Agreed! Scheduling a nap is so much better than just keeling over at Walmart.

I went about 4 months post op in late July last year. It was great and not nearly as hot as I expected it to be. Bring lots of water and snacks. Maybe schedule some pool time in the afternoon. Have fun!

We are actually tentatively planning a trip for October...originally I'd be 7mos out but with having to split my surgery into two parts (with the second part in June) I may only be about 4mos out but I think it should be a great time as long as I plan accordingly

Are you staying at a Disney Resort? If so, it is easy to take the bus back to the hotel to rest in the middle of the day, if you need to. I went last year in August and the heat alone exhausted me (and I am 8 years out). Just make sure to drink lots of water.

I went on vacation last Fall, 3 weeks after surgery. I honestly had no issues physically. Fluid intake and mushy foods were easy to maintain.

I had some emotional angst, maybe from hormonal changes with losing a lot of weight rapidly??
