I started my pre-op liquid diet on Monday, my surgery is next Friday May 5th. I have the worst headaches. I feel as if my head is going to explode. My eyes are twitching, I feel nauseous and the constant pounding won't stop. Is there any sort of liquid magic cure for this. I can't live like this till next Friday.

Unfortunately that is rather common. It should not last more than a few days. You body is detoxing, and if you have up carbs. Sugar, and things like coffee or soda - the headaches are very unpleasant but normal.

Even now - If I have a few days of not so "clean" eating (too many carbs - too many for me) and then I try to detox ,- go back on a low carbs diet - I may feel the effects of that. Drinking lots and lots of water, making sure my bowels move properly can be beneficial. Walking, hot showers, etc.

What HALA says. Also, make a list of all your ailments related to obesity - knees and back that hurt, indigestion, snoring, etc. That list may help you get through this phase of discomfort.

Hang in there!! It gets better.

The first 3-4 days of the pre-op diet suck. In fact, the entire pre-op diet sucks. Liquid diets just suck in general.

But you've got to get through it and keep your eyes on the goal. It'll get better and LIFE will get better and this will just be a blip on the radar of your past.

You can do this!

What everyone else has already said. For me, days 2 and 3 were the worst. After that it was much better. Make sure you're getting plenty of 0-calorie fluids. The more water I drink, the less headaches I get. Dehydration is one of our worst enemies.

This usually only lasts for 3 days or so. Think about it as a withdrawal from all the ****ty food.

Really, it sucks, but it's best you do it now. You HAVE to do it after surgery. Imagine going through this on TOP of recovering from surgery and anesthesia?

Stick with it. The results are absolutely worth it.

On a plus side I've lost 9lbs since Monday. Even if it's water weight.

Out of curiosity, I'm a newbie just beginning the process so I don't know all the restrictions with the pre-op process, but are you allowed to take I ibuprofen?

I honestly didn't ask but I just took two excedrin I couldn't deal with the pain. I get bad migraines and cluster headaches normally but this was way worse than anything I have experienced before. Now I'm just nauseous, with a mild headache

All medications have to be stopped besides Tylenol 7 days prior I believe unless okayed by the anesthesia doctor. IB causes extra bleeding and you don't need that.
