Everything Stinks?

So I've developed a weird quirk this week. Most every strong scented food just smells sooo bad. I walked into the cafeteria the other day and got immediately nauseated. I served green beans today, terrible. And don't even get me started on meatballs. It's how I imagine smell sentivity would be during pregnancy (I'm not pregnant).

Did this happen to anyone else? Any explanations as to why?

It's a thing... http://www.cambridgemedicine.org.uk/obesity-changes-to-taste -and-smell-after-weight-loss-surgery-study-finds/ and https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s11695-014-1221-2

Personally, the smell thing only lasted a few months for me I chalked it up to related to ketosis (fat burning) which also gave me a hideous taste in my mouth and TMI stronger smelling pee. I figured it was all related. I lived on these 3 hour mints http://amzn.to/2rtH839 I still carry them all the time.

Eggface, I really appreciate the inclusion of a scholarly article. I would say that I did Atkins for years, so spent much time in ketosis, and never developed an aversion to smells during that time. Ketosis does leave a metallic type taste in one's mouth (also leads to bad breath). That was my personal experience with ketosis prior to WLS.

I also have the bad taste and weird pee! Good to know I'm not alone.

OMGosh, YES! The minute I walked into my house after release from the hospital, some sharp odor hit my nose and I nearly hurled. I made my husband clean out the fridge and deodorize the trash can and sink drains. Nothing smelled appetizing and many smells just made me nauseous. I felt so sorry for anyone who had to go home after this surgery and continue to cook for a family. So lucky my husband cooks for himself, though most of his cooking stank to high heaven.
Also, could not stand the taste of anything sweet. In my case, after ten weeks, I am less sensitive to odors, but I still feel like a bloodhound; it's like I can smell EVERYTHING.

I've had it since surgery but it does seem worse this week for some reason. I think we had surgery around the same time. Mine was 5/2.

I have this. It's not severe yet (8 days post...I think), but I definitely have it.

As someone above mentioned, I've done Atkins diet multiple times over the last 20 years and lived in Ketosis...the weird taste in the mouth is DEFINITELY from Ketosis, in fact it's one of the signs to know you are in it if you don't choose to pee on a keto-stick. But the nausea and aversion to smells I think is probably related to the surgery itself. If ONLY I had this problem in all those Atkins days. much fewer temptations when they make you want to hurl.

Absolutely a real thing. I was in Aruba at 5 weeks post op and couldn't stand to be near my sister (a cigarette smoker). I could barely be near her, even when she wasn't smoking!! It went away after a few months...

I was in the hospital for a week so had a lot of flowers in my room. My son stayed with me and got so upset when I asked him to get rid of the flowers I couldn't stand the smell. He had given me 2 dozen roses omg the smell. My brother came to see me and I had to have him leave I couldn't stand the smell of smoke on him. This is odd but it does go away
