I have an impossible time finding swimsuits that fit, no matter what I weigh! I have a long torso and broad shoulders and apparently nobody makes suits that fit me well and don't look ridiculous.
Enter... the rash guard!
It's a top made of swimsuit fabric, and they come in short- and long-sleeve versions. They were originally worn by surfers to prevent their version of "road rash," but they're amazing for hanging out at the pool.
Snag any type of swimsuit bottom you like-- I go with a high-waist bottom to keep my "momma jiggle" contained-- and throw on a cheap sports bra underneath, and you 're good to go. It covers everything, doesn't slip or chafe, and it has SPF 50 so I don't turn into a lobster.
You can pick them up on Amazon or Swimoutlet, they'll usually run $15 - 20. Definitely worth trying if you need a new swimsuit!
Great minds think alike!
I call what I get in the water in my "swim burka". Over a regular one piece swim suit I wear a long-sleeved swim shirt and swim capris that I ordered from Coolibar. Keeps everything nice and contained and if someone asks, I can say I'm protecting myself from the sun. :D
The ones I have right now have a little skirt, but it's proven to be more annoying than it's worth. I had another pair without the skirt when I was in Belize and they proved invaluable when we went river tubing and were scraping over rocks every now and then. My friend ripped a hole in her suit bottoms, but I just scooted right over. :D
Ooh. I like their swim shorts!

Thanks for the rec - I just picked up a cheapie at Walmart after doing the same last year since I was still losing weight then. I'm super uncomfortable with my arms though so this is something for me to consider. I never really thought about this as an option. I don't have a pool/lake/swimming option that we use for me to need a nice suit, but I also don't want to keep buying one every year for the 3 times I may use it.
I'm going to try to remember this as an option!

Good suggestion. I have a long torso too. So I can really only wear tankinis.
