I am currently trying to lose 25 pounds that my insurance requires of me before approving surgery. I am an emtional eater and eat when I am bored or watching tv. What do you do while watching tv and bored now?

Might be a good idea to find something you enjoy doing outside of the home after work, or even get a gym membership to distract you and whip yourself into shape simultaneously. Weather is still pretty good so you can make it a regular thing to get out and walk if at all possible.

I would definitely avoid sitting in front of the television if it's a trigger.

Best of luck losing that 25 !

Do something that makes it impossible to eat while watching TV like cross stitch or knitting. Figure out things to do that aren't boring - go for a walk, read an exciting book, whatever else interests you?

When I was losing I made a deal with myself that I was only allowed to watch tv if I was on the elliptical machine. I wasn't always moving too quickly, and sometimes that meant I skipped watching any tv at all, but it kept me from eating in front of the tube and gave me a whole lot more steps and activity than I would have without it. I know not everyone has a machine at home, but maybe you can march in place or use stretching bands. Staying active while watching tv will keep your hands out of the chip bag!

My dietitan told me to stop eating in front of screens. If you need your mouth to be busy while watching tv, try zero calorie mints or gum. Also drink plenty of water to keep your tummy full feeling.

If I can't help myself, I try to snack on something super low calorie. Like carrots, or no butter and low sodium popcorn.

They have little pedal machines you can use while sitting on the sofa. That might help. Here is an example: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Carex-Digital-Pedal-Exerciser/13447063

Make a list of all the things you cannot do now that you want to do once you have lost weight

Read a book

Take a walk

Volunteer with a group

Take another walk

Clean the house

Plan your dream vacation if you hit the lottery

Learn a new hobby that uses your hands

Take a walk

Join a gym

Go for a swim

Restrict your tv time - like one of the other posters said, I only let myself watch netflix when I was on a recumbent bike. Watched 3 seasons of Breaking Bad that way.

Do yoga

Write a letter to the soon to be new you

Good luck.

Keep on losing!

How many walks do you want me to take? JK...... Thanks for that idea tho, making a list sounds like a great idea. That way I would have a goal to work towards as well.

I don'****ch TV as I hate the commercials, but i do love Netflix. I crochet or do plastic canvas needlework while watching movies. It keeps my hands busy and I find it very relaxing. Plus I get to make cute things, lol.

I taught myself how to crochet, you should see the huge wall hanging I made while watching T.V.! It kept my hands and mind busy during the weeks pre op and the months post op. Other times when I was tempted to eat off plan, I walked. This eventually led to hiking months later.

I am a craftoholic...I knit, crochet and mostly make jewelry. Mostly chainmaille. It has saved me many time from bad choices. I have started to read again. Even watched some documentaries on Netflix.

Find something you're passionate about. Crafting is great and without it I'd be in real trouble.
