Fear I've blown it need advice

I am meeting with dr's nutrionist next week and I have not hit or even come near my targeted weight loss. I went on a bit of a "goodbye tour" of food/drink and had actually gained weight. So I know I have lost weight the extra weight I had gained but so afraid they won't accept my recent efforts as enough. Any suggestions of how to talk with nutrionist or dr? Anyone work with Bershire medical in Mass?

I think it's going to depend more on your insurance requirements in addition to the doctor's standards. No amount of 'talking' will reverse the insurance requirements. If you're self pay, maybe it might be different, but highly unlikely.

The doctor's put requirements in place to be sure you are 'ready' for this surgery. You have to be committed and that's the only way they know that you truly are.

My surgeon will cancel surgery if the patient has not lost the weight he requires before surgery.

Some surgeons will operate anyway. Just tell them what happened and see what they say.

I think it is easier to follow the food plan after surgery. I was never hungry and could eat very little when I did eat. Before surgery, I was always hungry and could eat a ton of food.

Having a good-bye tour is actually silly. There is not a food that you will never be able to eat again. I can eat anything I want and just have to accept the consequences if it is the wrong food for my health.

What does your surgeon and insurance require? My insurance just required I go to diet and nutrition classes. I did not have to lose anything. My surgeon did not allow any gain in weight. Honestly, I did not lose a single pound in my 6 months of classes. I needed surgery. Pre-op compliance/weight loss does not guarantee post-op success nor does non-compliance guarantee failure. I am a prime example of that. I am 9 years out and have kept off my weight.

Good luck and keep us posted.

You are not the only one. I gained 4lbs in the two months between deciding on surgery and starting my 10 day pre-op diet.

Do drug addicts and alcoholics get goodbye and reunion tours? If you have an eating disorder and/Or trigger foods you may have to learn to abstain from those.

I also had food funerals, but dove is right, they were unnecessary. You haven't "blown it", but you might have delayed it. Either way, do your best and learn from your actions.

I am grateful for the honest feedback. It has been more self indulgence and/or setting myself up to fail. I am calling the Dr's office today and updating the patient advocate. The alcoholic/drug addict post really hit me hard- but in the way I needed! I need demonstrate change for them and myself- perhaps this will push my surgery out a few months rather than eliminate it. Thank you again for your insights

I too have/had struggled with food addiction. That is why I bring it up. There are some things that one could put in front of me, and I would easily forget about for how hard and how long I worked to lose this weight.

Fortunately, now I only have to fight that battle at the grocery store, random vending machines, and 7 eleven! :)

You will get there! You just have to remember your priorities and it can be really hard "in the moment" or when life gets tough.
