Sleep Apnea

I had my sleep study last night. This is my last ditch effort to get gastric bypass. The tech said that I stopped breathing 5 times an hour. I am also a big snorer (I've never snored before putting on this weight) I don't know if anyone has any advice. I'm really hoping this will get me approved.

Well what is your insurances criteria for approval? That will determine if you can be approved.

Typically, you need a BMI above 40, or a BMI of 35 + comorbidities. Sleep apnea is a comorbidity. Do you have any others?

I'm above the 40 right now but I have to be this way for a year. My year will be in May. Yes my insurance company requires a comorbity at BMI of 35. The sleep Apnea would be my only comorbity. I have severe lower back issues but they are not counting that.

My surgeon at one point told me the only comorbidities most insurance companies consider are Sleep Apnea, Diabetes, and High Blood Pressure.

It sounds like you fall under their guidelines.

you should be in just under the wire.

It takes s minimum of 5 apnea episodes to qualify as sleep apnea.

So I stop sleeping 11.1 times a hour and my oxygen drops to 80. However, they said this isn't enough to get a CPAP machine. My question would be if I have to have a CPAP machine for my insurance to give me the okay for the bypass. I'm so sick of fighting so hard but I don't want to give up either. UGH
