General question on sublingual vites and meds

Feeling like I should know this and am kind of embarrassed that I don't by now.

Question: with sublingual vitamins and meds, are they only successfully absorbed if you literally keep them under your tongue until they are dissolved? IOW, if by some chance you aren't paying close enough attention and you keep them in your mouth but not necessarily under your tongue is there a marked difference in their rate of effectiveness?

I understand that swallowing them defeats their purpose. Just wondering on the whole in mouth/under tongue differences. If there even are any.

help?

As I understand it, the vitamin is absorbed by ALL the tissues in your mouth. Even when it's under your tongue, the saliva mixes with the tablet and gets swooshed around your mouth, so the cheeks and whatnot get some as well.

As long as you don't swallow the actual pill, it still absorbs.

There is a vessel that runs right under your tongue so sublingual medications get into your bloodstream just a tiny bit faster than if you just dissolve them in your mouth.
