Am I allergic to whey protein?

I tried the Nectar last night and got very sick again (after getting sick the night before after drinking a Premier drink)...appears that I might be allergic to whey isolate. I can drink the soy and pea protein. This is very disheartening to me, as I was so excited to start the liquid diet. My concern, (whether valid or not), is what if after surgery I develop an aversion to soy and can't get my nutrients in at all? I know I'm probably worrying over nothing, but it has me worried and second guessing surgery. Any thoughts appreciated as I'm pretty down.

It is possible that you have an intolerance (or an allergy) to whey isolate. Thankfully there are lots of other options! There's egg protein and pea protein and hemp protein and soy protein. You might be able to do milk with no problem and Fairlife milk is an excellent source of protein. Bone based protein might also work for you (there's a company that makes bone protein powders with interesting sounding flavors).

While whey protein isolate is recommended as "the best" for us, there are many other options out there when whey isn't an option.

And... post-op you probably only have a 1-4 week requirement for liquids and, at that point, protein shakes are necessary anyway (even if they can be useful).

Whey bothers my stomach quite a lot. I stick to pea protein.

I've never drunk a protein shake or eaten a protein bar. If you weren't able to find one you like or that agrees with you, you would be just fine.

Asking purely out of curiosity, did you not have a liquid diet protein requirement?

No, I did not. I had a short liquid phase and then onto soft foods. It's a 30/60/90 program, where you get your protein from food, not supplements.

There are many people here who's surgeons don't require or desire protein shakes to be consumed and in my case, it didn't impede my success in reaching goal (120lbs loss in unDer six month) or my subsequent success for the last 13.5 years.

Ah gotcha. I have heard of some surgeons not wanting patients to drink their calories/protein and others who are probably contracted with specific protein suppliers and insist on patients using a specific brand of protein shake. Such a huge variance! Thank you for sharing and congrats on the loss :)

My body is not fond at all with whey protein. I found egg white protein to settle much easier.
