What's the  wait time for surgery? I contacted my BCBS Friday & found out that there is no 6 month screening period like my MD thought. I was told all he does is turn in the pre-determination forms, fill out the other forms they will send him, then they do the review. If I am approved, then I choose who I want (Dr. Suggs) to do the surgery, make an appointment, BCBS sends him the approvel papers..and wa la. Katy

Hey, Kristie...you're not far from me.  I'm north of Russellville.    How long was your surgery date from the time you were approved? Katy

I have Anthem Blue Cross (used to be Blue Cross of California until the Jan. 2008 name change). I checked my benefits (call your insurance for this) and found out Blue Cross will only approve surgery at a "Center of Expertise" for weight loss surgery. There was not one around my home town so I attended a weight loss surgery support group and asked the group what they knew about this situation. They knew plenty and shared it all and I came away with the name of a Dr. that many of them had used and came highly recomended. I called the office and confirmed he is a Blue Cross provider and made a consult appointment. This surgeon likes you to do all the prelim. testing and have your "ducks in order" then they submit for approval to the ins. When all my testing was done Blue Cross only took 2 days to approve the surgery. The first opening for surgery was June 3, and this is my surgery date.  I hope this helps you, good luck and hang in there!  Kim B
