I've had a lot of issues post op with nausea and vomiting. Since I got my feeding tube yanked 2 weeks ago I have done okay. I've had a few issues with vomiting and stuff but it's not been terrible especially compared to before hand. The past couple days I feel soooo queasy EVERY time I eat though (have gotten sick a few times). I've never been able to actually eat as much as I'm supposed to (should be doing 6 oz meals) but I had myself to being able to do 3-4 oz meals atleast twice a day and then 1-2 oz meals a couple days usually. Today has been totally weird because 2 bites of EVERYTHING that I've tried to eat makes me feel miserably full, stuck and everything else. I went 4-5 days without needing to take anything for nausea and I'm back doing Phenergan and Zofran atleast 1 time a day (which is great compared to before I was rotating them both every 3 hours). I'm still on my Reglan 4 times a day. Sometimes when I eat I get a funky little pain around my pouch but sometimes I just get it even without eating. Things were getting better but today has me slightly discouraged because I had taken a couple steps forward and I feel like today I stepped back big time.

Thanks! I know it will get better but its just very frustrating! Especially because I got violently sick after lunch and we were at a restaurant that some friends of ours had JUST bought and it was dead in there and they were sitting at the table next to us chatting with us. When I came back I was in a great bit of pain and flushed and stuff soo there was noo denying what had happened. I just feel awful. I even stuck to something I was sure would be okay (I ordered a club sandwich w/o bacon and just ate the lunch meat off of 1/4 of it before I felt miserably full and sick) and it made me ill.

Feeding tube? I had no idea that a feeding tube was part of after surgery care. This doesn't sound good to me at all. Maybe I should do more research? Katy

Definitely make sure that you do your research. However some doctors put a g-tube in as a precaution for a few weeks. Mine wasn't put in til I was 2 months post op (I had a PICC line with TPN for the 2 months before but kept getting staph infections). I have had a lot of issues though and most people don't get feeding tubes. Some docs aren't even doing drains now.

I get a funcky naucious feeling when i dont eat for a long time (like over night) .. in the morning i get a pain in my chest around my pouch area.

As long as im eating im fine .. but if i stop for more then 3-4 hours .. i feel miserable .. I thought it was supposed to be the opposite .. but i guess this surgery is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get!

I hope you feel better soon ((HHUUGGSS))

Thanks! Usually I don't feel nauseated til I eat or drinking sometimes. It's so funky because before I was nauseated ALL the time. I feel like theres a huge lump in my chest after eating. It's similar to the feelings when I had my strictures but last time they checked my opening was 12 MM and they wanted to leave it at that because every time they stretch me to 20-22 mm like they were doing (typical/normal is 15 btw) I was shriveling right back up so they wanted me to try and get my pouch used to a smaller size possibly. I guess if it keeps up I may call and see if they will check things out.

Have you consulted your surgeon about this?  You may even have an ulcer.  Good luck, Loris

I hadn't because it's been most bothersome this evening. I am going to wait it out til Monday and call. I will start taking the Carafate now though JIC. It can't hurt me anyways.

I have to say this is scary & that I should maybe re-think having this surgery. I had no idea it was so painful & complicated. I know surgery is not a fun thing but hearing this has me down right scared. Katy

Definitely do not let this scare you. Just do your research and go into it with a positive attitude. There are risks and complications with any types of surgery. This just happened to be the one I had and I've not had a smooth road. I would most definitely do it again though. I'm  mostly healthier now and thats awesome. No more diabetes or anything like that.

I'm diabetic too, 5'3" & weigh 218. How soon after surgery did you come off your medication? I'm on Novolog, 3 injections a day, & Lantus, 1 injection at bedtime. Katy

I am 5'1" and weighed 219 last uly     I am diabetic as well      I havent lost a lot due to other health problems that had NOTHING to do with the surgery   I am still on all my meds,  as of Tuesday I was below 200 {195}   and so tickled..... in the first 4 months I had  shinges,  started passing kidney stones,,, UTI   and even had a minor surgery to take care of calicum desposit on my voice box and problems with my  vocal chords again  nothing from the surgery... and oh   they found cancer cells in my urine    but it is ok for now.....so you can almost say I was well rounded with problems but again not from surgery   I would go again in a heart beat. My surgeon and his team or his team and he  was right with me thru it all  and now in the last 2 months I am down my first 7 lbs  lose at one time   so I feel like I am now on my way.......   do contact your doc if these problems doesnt go away you dont need to get dehydrated   you will be in my prayers  and for those that isnt sure they want the sutgery... this operation could ust save your life and if any minor problems  it is still worth it   I wanted to see my grandbabies grow up  so I can laugh when my daughter says   she is ust like I was  or that she can sit back and tell her husband she is going to do this next   sorry   but I do a little joy from your pain with her  but I do feel sorry for both...  my daughter is a100 times better mommmy  than I ever was...

I was off all my meds the day of surgery. About 2 weeks post op I needed a long VERY VERY high dose of steroids for a bad Asthma flare up (and partially collapsed lung) and so my sugar was going up to like 200 so they put me back on Humalog just when my sugar ws over 150.
