    Topic: RE: Surgery in Mexico

I had RNY in Mexico and 2 rounds of Plastic Surgery. All were great experiences, in fact they were better than US Dr./hospital experiences I've had. I will be going back one of these days for another round of plastics.

Like any country there are good and bad doctors and programs. Research is key... reading, emailing, chatting with former patients.

Have a plan in place for follow-up care and understand that if your insurance won't cover the surgery chances are if you have complications they won't cover those either. It's not the right choice for everyone but it was the best decision I ever made.

I hope everyone considering medical tourism has as great an experiences as I had.

    Topic: RE: Help

Head hunger, real hunger, whatever the case may be... if you are following your Dr's plan for you then maybe something to get your mind off it... movie, a walk, craft, game, facebook or pinterest will suck time. If you don't have an "eating" plan from your Dr. call him/her and get one... it will tell you protein gram minimums to shoot for, portion sizes (though it is hard to meet these at first), some have sample menus/recipes, when to phase in certain types of foods... etc.

Congrats and best wishes on your journey! Hope you will soon feel like I do about having weight loss surgery... best gift I ever gave myself.

    Topic: RE: I need help

Get in to see a Dr and get lab stuff done but at the very least.... protein (70+ grams/day is generally the rec), take your vits (previous poster gave you the guidelines of the common ones but your labs will determine exacts for you so get those done), drink water, do whatever movement you are able.

You are welcome to check out my blog (I blog what I eat, link in my signature) for ideas but you know your Dr will give you a plan to get you back on track... they have heard ot all. Go see him/her.

Amen on the support too... here, FB lots of groups, on twitter #WLS, locally a Dr should have one.

Best wishes on your recommitment to getting healthy!!

I had two rounds of plastics in Mexico (also had WLS in Mexico) All were great experiences. Research is key... good and bad Dr's in all countries. I felt very safe... most Dr's have drivers that will pick you up stateside and bring you directly to the clinic.

The storebought stuff is using pretty carby they make up for the lack of sugar. It's pretty easy to make healthier and tastier stuff at home. I have some yummy "healthified" substitutes (for cake and ice cream, ice cream cake) you might want to try on my blog. Link in my signature.

    Topic: RE: going crazy...

Congrats on your surgery and good luck on the job search. I'd probably call the Dr and ask to move on to the next stage. Tell him/her you seem to be doing well other than you are needing a little more substance.

On the bored stuff... isn't it funny when we are go go go all the time we want chill time but when we get it it's hard to deal with. I started to blog my experience when I was in the middle of that. Maybe an online course some extra job skill. There is always pinterest.com  that'll kill oodles of time LOL 5 minutes can easily become 50!

Topic: RE: 1 week post-op; need advice

Those first few weeks are very overwhelming... I cried at least once a day for 2 weeks. So much to think about when to eat, when to drink, how long to wait between stuff, still some pain, odd sensations, drugs in your system, a lot of WTH did I do to myself moments... hang in there. It does get better and more "normal" in a few weeks. Breath fresh air, drink tha****er, aim for better than the day before ;)

It helped me to find a couple of foods that "worked" and rotate those nothing fancy for a bit then when you can't take those anymore add a new something into the mix. Eventually you will be eating a great variety again.

    Best wishes on your journey!

Topic: RE: Topic for Support Group Need Ideas

How about a protein tasting party... a variety of protein drink and bar samples. That's always fun but might need more than a day notice to gather samples together. You could do a protein exchange too... everyone brings the stuff they hate and trades... one post-ops nasty gak is another's tasty treat ;)

A local plastic surgeon could be contacted for a post-op plastics discussion. Who knows they might have a free evening and hey its great for business.

You said you need exercise but maybe do a group yoga session, zumba class or some line dancing.

Hope you have a great group! Support is soooo important on this... no one understands this crazy rollercoaster like another WLS-er.

Topic: RE: Hating the protein shakes

Keep sampling... they are not all hideous. I promise. I have a handful I love and I am happy to share the names but protein is one of those personal preference things.

Some tips and recipes for making it more tasty.

    http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2007/10/icky-brown-gack.html

When I'm out of protein I often make this shake that has oodles of protein in it... so when you are further on and cleared for some of the ingredients it might be an alternative.

    http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2009/07/cherry-heaven.html

Hope it gives you a few ideas... remember protein is part of the "contract" we made when we signed up for WLS so get it in... do better each day.

Topic: RE: 3 weeks Post-op stopped loosing weight!!

Very normal and typical to stall early on. Dr's actually have a name for the early stall "Hibernation Mode" our bodies realize it's not going to get the fuel (food) it's used to getting all these years and so it goes into hibernation (think bears in winter) and hold on to the fat stores for dear life (survival). It can't last given the limited input (food & drink) and increased output (exercise) you just have to be patient (I know easier said than done) and wait it out. It will happen several times as you lose (around -80 I had no movement for a month).

Have no fear it'll kick in again. Concentrate on what you have control over... the good choices you are making, moving your body in whatever manner you can, changing your life (the head stuff, why you gained weight)

Best wishes. Sending you scale fairy dust it kicks in again soon. Remember to take those measurements too... my scale never moved when weight was shifting.

Topic: RE: Carb addict would like help please to break this NOW

Keep them out of the house for sure... and make some healthy choices easily accessible... I have cucumbers sliced and ready to grab or pre-portioned snack bags of better choices... set yourself up for success that way when something stresses you out you have back-up ;)

Thought you might enjoy this read too:

Good Luck. I do cold turkey... no bread, rice, pasta, bread, crackers, chips, etc closing in on 6 years now, it's what *I* have to do. YMMV.

    Topic: RE: need some help

I used fitday.com (free) for tracking.

Meal planning helps me... the night before I sit down and figure out what I will be eating versus just winging it. Helps me to see my day in advance. 95% of the time I eat my plan and if something derails it (last minute invite out, etc.) I can make adjustments.

On the weak, dizzy stuff... be sure you are talking to your Dr... drinking enough water... water could be the constipation stuff too.

Hope you are feeling 100% again soon,
