Hey Donna, Yeah I go to St. Joes East. I'm 9 months out from surgery tomorrow! The weight loss hasn't been what I had hoped too. I've been doing everything like I'm supposed to, even writing down everything I eat in a journal. Please feel free to read my journal and email me. Thanks for responding! Dee

    Topic: RE: Protein ideas?

Hey Kim, The protein that I use comes from the bariatric center I went to. I am using their hot chocolate protein mix, the Unjury, and cream of chicken soup. I find these are rather tasty, and the hot chocolate is the best. (the unjury just mixes in any food you can tolerate.) Their web site is:  http://www.bsslex.com/ You can order directly from that web site. Good luck to you and try to do your best getting that protein in--it will help you with moving into the different phases of your diet. Good luck Dee

    Topic: RE: What the heck?

It's a damed if you do and damed if you don't in our society, aint it? Had you been in there for any other reason on any other day, you'd been asked if you knew about WLS. I wouldn't let someone else's indiscretions get you down. You know your mind, body and soul. You have a clearer picture of where you want to go and what you want to do in life. You have your family and friends helping you along the way. Put this chap out of your mind and carry on--he has--and you're better off than him anyways! Take care and best wishes to you-- Dee

Topic: RE: Anxiety attacks due to surgery?

Hello Dee, I've been having the same feelings too And it's driving me craaaazy!!! For me, I think it's just my way of doing a reality check in that I am fully aware of the risks behind this surgery. (I'm going for an RNY) I'm also under the impression that having nervous feelings before the surgery is quite normal. I don't have much to offer other than that, but just to let you know, yeah--I hear ya!  Best wishes-- Dee

    Topic: What's An Angel???

Hey guys, My name is DeAnne and I've been here for a few months. I am from the Lexington, Ky area and was wondering exactly what an angel was? If it's some sort of mentor, I think I'd like to have something like that. I am going to St. Joes East WLS-Center and would love to have someone to talk to who's been there and can give me some insight. Any information would be of great appreciation!! Thanks in advance! Dee

Topic: RE: Financial Help for Surgery

Hello MaryJane, I am pre-op and still awaiting approval, so any thoughts I have here is simply guessing on my part, but here's what I think: I would have you go back to your PCP (Primary Care Physician) and have him refer you to a WLS doctor or clinic; call one yourself if by chance you don't have to have a referal. I would then just start all over as though you had never applied for it at all. The thing is, if you were denied the first time, I would also make a phone call to the insurance company and have them send you a letter specifically citing the reasons for denial and bring that with you when you are scheduled a seminar or a meet with a WLS nurse and/or financial counselor. In essence what I am trying to say is that your denial could be something really simple and a possibly a little red hoop you forgot to jump through. Maybe you forgot to see a specific dr. they were wanting you to see or maybe your Dr. forgot to sign something. So, don't be discouraged and keep fighting. Find out the details of your denial and make new appointments again. You might find the second time around will be simple because of all your previous appointments. Good luck to you-- Dee

Topic: RE: pre -op and & getting it all in.....

Hello Litlhurry, I am pre-op like you and when I finally made the decision to have WLS, I too kind of went on a binge. This lasted for about 3 days when I realized I should really start making preparations for life after surgery. I have cut down my meal portions, even more so than before, and am focusing on protein; i.e. cottage cheese and yogurts. I am doing the slim fast meal plan online and exercising 3 days a week. I am hoping to lose a little weight and gain some good muscle before surgery. Maybe do some meditation and think about what you want out of this surgery and reflect how important it is to you. Good luck and email me if you like-- Dee

Topic: RE: Are you new here? - What surgery to have?

I found the link you offer the other night and read through it thoroughly. Mostly because I want the surgery that is going to best work for me and one that I can mentally and physically prepare for. I have been reading a ton of profiles on people that are a close proximity to my weight and BMI, because I think that represents what the surgery will possibly be like for someone of my size. I know that is not a gurauntee their experiences and my experiences will be the same, because we are all different individuals with different backgrounds and health issues and cir****tances. I have decided that for me, the RNY is the route to go, because of the amount of weight I want to lose and the long-term effects as far as keeping the weight off. I exercise, already and have a healthy diet in the meantime while I wait to go to my first seminar and eventually meeting up with my surgeon. Right now, I am surgeon shopping and will make a list of questions to ask. Although from what I gather from other profiles, the seminars and classes help to answer a lot of questions anyone contemplating this surgery may have. That's all about me, but thank you for posting that link, becuase I have to admit, I did have a little difficulty finding it. Take care-- Dee

Hello Jaded, It sounds as  though you're having a tough Sunday! I hope that it gets better for you. Are you sure you don't need to go to the Dr. and make sure nothing is broken? I would hate for you to be in pain for a broken bone or something. I have chronic ****yx pain and really sympathize with you. I hope you're ok! Dee

Topic: RE: Anyone watching The Shrinking Woman on DHC?

My hubby and I watched this show together and we both stared at our tele-screen in horror. I had so many questions to why certain things were done the way that they were, but had to come to my conclusions on my own. I figure it was like one poster said here, that the woman didn't follow closely at hand post-op orders as prescribed by her Dr.'s. I'm just guessing that this, of course, but like y'all I don't think I'd wait around 1-2 weeks with black smelly skin wondering if I should go see a Dr. That had to be painful on some level and smell too, there was just something not right about that. I also agree that she didn't look healthy at all and was rather surprised that she was even having all these surgeries close together. I always thought surgeries were either done together at the same time (kind of like killing two birds with one stone) or enough healing time spent between them, so that the patient has fully recovered. I agree with the poster here who wrote they thought the woman being profiled was compesating her inability to eat with PS. I kept saying to my hubby, "That woman needs help, but nothing surgery will give her." Anyhoot, I'm hoping this isn't typical with super-morbidly obese people, because I am super-morbidly obese and I don't want to have all that loose skin on my legs, belly or arms. While I doubt I will become a PS finatic, I know I will at least require a body tuck simply because the exercise will not be enough. Which brings me to my final point/question. I am wondering if this woman does any kind of exercise. I keep getting the feeling that the amount of loose skin, anywhere on the body, depends on how we heed to our orders from our surgeries, exercise (especially working on weights to tone our muscles) and get plenty of rest. I just somehow get the impression that this show was edited so much that we the viewers were not getting the full picture.

Topic: Replying To A Post; Another ?...

With me having to wait a few more days before my probation to pre-approved post is over, I noticed something about my replying to posts. On the thread I started on 5/31/06, introducing myself and saying hello from Kentucky, I read and responded to everyone that posted to my initial post. However, when I went to see if a certain poster had responded to my response, (Gale from Ky-I wanted to make sure she got my message that we should meet up at our seminar June 12) I noticed that my thread didn't come to the front page, hence no one being able to see it. I am wondering if this is common for pressing the reply button or just a fluke on my part? Do posts go to the top of the page when you press the reply button? Any help answering this question would be appreciated; thank you. Dee

    Topic: Approved Posting...

I don't mean to make a big ol' thread about this, but I was just curious how long the pre-approved suspended posting last for new members? I've looked all over the board to see, but I have not been able to find it. I respect the boards need to check newbies out and all, I was just simply curious. Thank you in advance-- Dee
