    Topic: RE: Question on Protein

My blood work has always been pretty good, with little tweeks here and there.  The last one was in the fall and everything seemed fine except that they found that I was calcium deficient.  Working harder at not forgetting my vits.

    Topic: RE: Question on Protein

I haven't taken the time yet to read the article BUT I honestly DO believe that we need a good amount of protein actually everybody needs a minimum amount. My mom who has had no wls is protein deficient.

Can I ask why you would cut out your protein intake?

    Topic: RE: Question on Protein

I have to thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. And thank your nephew also for the info., so I will be taking the time to count out my protein throughout the day and aim for 100gr.
I am proud to say that I have had no bad carbs in 4 days, have upped my protein - veggie - and fruit, exercised at the gym like crazy since tuesday and am down 6 pounds in 4 days... I'm verry happy and it's a good start in the right direction.
Congrats to your nephew on winning 1st prize. It takes great dedication.

    Topic: RE: Question on Protein

    Thanks Gina for the encouragement,

and yes the old habits are VERY hard to break!!!! But i'm motivated and have promised myself to visit OH more often to keep myself accountable... Haven't really visited OH in a few years but it seems less "BUSY".  I used to live off of this site before.

My question is when we are in our weight loss mode then we don't want to lose muscle instead of fat... But when we you are in maintenance then would this still apply... the 100gr of protein ?

    Topic: RE: Question on Protein

    Thank you Ashley,

the reason I was getting in 100gr was I was training really hard 1:30 to 2:00 hours a day 4-5 days a week before pregnancy.

Good luck on your weight loss journey! :)

    Topic: RE: PREGNANT!!!!

I got pregnant 1 year post-op and have a beautiful healthy daughter.  If you can see a nutritionist and make sure to take all your vitamins, your water, and the protein.

I was so worried that I had something like 6 meals a day to make sure the baby got all that she needed...

    Good luck!

    Topic: Question on Protein

I need a refresher... I understand the importance for protein early post-op but does it still apply years later?

I was very dedicated and followed all the rules, counted absolutely everything that went into my mouth the 1st year. But then I got pregnant 1 year post-op and was more worried for the baby so I drank with meals, ate a little more and more often to compensate on not absorbing everything. Now 5-6 years later the bad habits have stuck and are hard to break...

So I need to know if I still need the 100gr of protein per day?

    Thanks :)

Topic: RE: Question- 6 months out- how much have you lost?

You can't compare yourself to others. Some have more weight to lose, and obviously will lose more and faster. I lost 170 pounds the 1st year but I also started off at 368.

You are new to OH and you will realize quickly that there are those that are here for support and want to share their experience and then there are those that should be ignored.  Ignore the comment.

It is a place to ask questions and it's good you did ask.  And if you have other questions then don't be afraid to ask them.

    Good luck :-)

    Topic: RE: Pregnancy?

First do you already have kids? Are you having this surgery because you want to get pregnant?
Why would you even think of getting pregnant a few months post-op?

I had PCOS and the surgery cured me of that and yes I got pregnant post-op... exactly 1 year after.  I was so paranoid that my malabsorption would harm the baby that I saw a Nutritionist that had me eat tons of calories which made me gain 75 pounds through my pregnancy !! Lost 160 pounds the 1st year to regain 75 pounds 9 months later.... That's hard on the body but even harder on the mind....

Rethink your plans and see what is more important....

Don't get me wrong I don't regret the weight gain because I have a beautiful, healthy and smart little girl... and for me it was worth it....

    Good luck.

Topic: RE: Long term effects on the body... after GBS ?

Thank you Dave, I know that I have to be more careful in taking my calcium vits as at the last lab results my PTH was high ( 9) and even now I still somehow forget too often and take 1 out of 2 pills that I need to take daily.

Topic: Long term effects on the body... after GBS ?

Through the last years, I have read alot about gastric bypass surgery. My concern actually is to know if there are any studies on the long term side effects on the body after many years ?  Say 20, 30 or even 40 years after the surgery.  Yes I may have prolonged my life with the weight loss but in the long run has it REALLY prolonges it ? Or has it just caused other potential problems... like damage on the immune system, liver, stomach ect...

What is the study result about long term calcium absorbtion ?

    Thanks for any input.

Topic: RE: Question about PCOS and WLS

I had PCOS and had RNY, was required a liquid diet for 2 weeks before surgery and lost 20 pounds... period started day of surgery and have been regular ever since... (before that I can't remember when I had a reg. period without having to take pills).  One year after RNY got pregant and had a beautiful girl. :)

Read up on the pros and cons of each surgery and maybe see another doctor for a second opinion.  Good luck and I believe either surgery will take care of PCOS...

Topic: RE: Anyone start having sugar issues AFTER surgery?

Since surgery, I've become hypoglycemic even at 5 years out I still have 3-4 episodes a month, nothing serious but my sugar drops really low between 2.2 and 2.4. I get dizzy and feel very confused, hands shaky and go into a cold sweat... Sometimes even at night while i'm sleeping I wake up soaking wet, I mean dripping...
I usually cut myself 2 good pieces of cheese, sit down for 5-10 minutes and it passes... that doesn't bother me very much...  But later I get an intense fatigue which I hate.  Worst culprit for the sugar drop is cereal with milk. Or sweets with milk...  Certain sweets also but not really sure why or which ones because I don't dump at all on sweets.
A small side-effect that i've learned to live with.
