Hey Dena!  I'm well thanks.  Busy back at work and have taken up jewellry making as a hobby.  At the rate I'm going, I will be the Imelda Marcos of earrings!  LOL

Nothing new on YouTube.  I do need to update but have been lazy with respect to that.  Some days, it's all I can do to just keep up with my energy levels!

    You are looking wonderful!

Topic: RE: Pixar, Wall-E, and Obesity

"So what is this powerful and profound message? Wall-E tells us that if we don't change the way we live, we'll all get really fat and destroy the world." The article got it wrong.  If we don't change the way we live, we'll destroy the world FIRST and THEN get really fat. I loved the movie.  The message was simple and could very well happen if people depended on robots to do everything for them.  Look at technology now.  We exercise less, work indoors more, spend more time on the computer or in front of the television. The message was more about destroying the planet, with a codicil about what it could do to humanity.  Not a bad message IMO.  After all, none of us want to be fat, right?

Topic: RE: How did you decide on which procedure??

The lapband isn't covered in Ontario but I didn't want it anyway.  Didn't want to go for fills or have an object in me. I researched the RNY and the DS and decided I needed the fear of dumping to keep me from eating too much sugar.  Plus I didn't want a big scar from an open procedure if possible and Ontario only covers the DS open right now.  I was able to lose some weight and have my RNY done lap. Definitely do lots of research, check out the VSG, RNY, DS and other forums for any type of surgery you can get covered. WLS for Dummies is a great book with lots of information! Good luck to you!!!

On the Barix site, there are a couple of before pictures of her.  Not sure how much before though. Thanks for the luck.  I've had my gastric surgery, this is just a surgery to remove a lipoma which is affecting my mobility.  After this, I get to go back to work!

Topic: RE: OT: Let's poll the worst songs ever (just for fun)

Great thread!  Some of these are truly heinous! I can't stand hearing "Leaving On A Jet Plane".  Reason:  They played it over and over and over and over and over at a mall I worked at years ago.  It got to the point that I was yelling out, "Get on the ******g plane and leave already!" For newer music, I can't stand "You're Beautiful" by James Blunt.  Even Weird Al's version "You're Pitiful" makes me wanna claw someone's face.  I think it's the music as well as the lyrics for this one.

Topic: RE: the differences between the 2 surgeries

Hey Sheila: Glad you are doing your research! I chose having the RNY because of the following: 1)  I wanted dumping syndrome to stop me from eating too much sugar, which it has. 2)  I didn't mind having my insides rerouted, but didn't want to have any parts taken out. 3)  I didn't want an open procedure if I could avoid it.  OHIP only approves the DS as an open procedure, but RNY for both open or laproscopically. 4)  I didn't want to have to eat greater amounts of protein/food in order to absorb the amount I would need.  It seemed like a waste to me and I wanted to eat less but healthier foods.  I felt that the DS would not help to change my bad eating habits. 5)  I was concerned about smelly gas and bowels as I work in the public sector. I know that not all DSers end up having trouble with some of my reasons for not having it, just as not all RNYers dump, but I didn't want to take any chances. I'm very happy with my choice and have not had any complications. Whichever surgery you chose, chose it because it's the right one for you. I wish you the best of luck!

Topic: RE: OT: What do you do for a living?

I've done a lot of jobs over the years (farm hand, cab driver, school bus driver, professional clown, cashier, etc...). Currently, I'm off work due to having my WLS and other health issues, but I've worked for the Ontario Provincial Government in the Ministry of the Attorney General, in the Small Claims Court as a CSR since 2001. Basically, I push legal claims around all day and answer the publics questions on the phone, at the counter, through snail mail and email. I love my job and can't wait to get back!

Topic: RE: People say this is the easy way out and...

You can look at it 2 ways. 1)  The Hard Way - Having surgery, getting your insides rewired, vitamin regime, etc... If that isn't hard, what is? OR 2)  The Easy Way - Almost guaranteed success for loss of weight and maintenance of weight over traditional dieting. You would fly to Europe, not swim.  So why keep trying diets that fail if there is an 'easier' way to lose the weight?

Topic: RE: ***PRE-OP'S***...If you're still researching WLS and trying to decide

Wow. Your HMO was nasty! Dorks!

That's interesting about Great Britain using the DS for diabetes.

I'm lucky, I never had to take any meds or insulin for my diabetes, but I don't miss the finger poking to check blood sugars either!

Hope you are having nice weather in FL! It's -6C here with a windchill of -14C. Which in F is 21 but feels like 7.

Thursday, I go North where the high will be 21F and the low of -21F or up here -6C with a low of -29C!!! That's when your sinuses start to freeze! LOL

    Have a Happy New Year!

It's definitely a phenomenon!! Although my WL surgeon does agree that it is not cured.

I think they (whomever 'they' are) need to do a study about this and define this for us.

I'm very happy to hear that you beat cancer! WTG!
