Topic: RE: Looking for help on loosing weight.

Go to your primary doctor and get some help re nutrition. Ask him/her if they can see you every three or six months. DOCUMENT every effort you make to lose weight. Join MyFitnessPal and log everything you eat and drink and keep records of exercise etc. Keep a note of your weight EVERY week, and make sure your doctor writes your weight down every time you visit.

I think you are a little too young at the moment, but the odds of you losing 200lbs on your own, and more importantly, keeping it off, are NOT in your favour. If in the future you need weight loss surgery, and you should certainly consider the VSG or sleeve surgery, you will need records of your attempts to lose weight!

Take this time to learn good nutrition and what are good choices, get active and walk whenever you can. If you have the opportunity, go to the school gym, or join one - the YMCA is usually reasonable.

Hang around here and we can help you - you need to eat a lot more than us - just because you have not had surgery and we are old but we can help tell you what are good choices. Can you cook?

Not sure how you plan telling your body to stop.

Just keep doing what you are doing and let your body (not your wife!!) tell you when it's done ...

I did a MOVI prep, using Crystal Light to flavor it with no problems ... not sure we're that precious that we need to do anything different to anyone else, it just might take us a bit longer to chug it down

I can see my surgeon once a year and he will order the proper tests - but I also need to find a PCP that is knowledgeble about WLS and the long term watch-outs. (I am 9 months out.)

I would hope that the ASMBS (largest national society for bariatric surgery) reaches out to their PCP peers and does more education with them. I used the search function on the OH website but there were no PCPs listed in my area - you might check there.

Fascinated. What problem with colonoscopy?

Nix the protein shakes in exchange for dense protein - liquid is not going to satisfy you now,but a hunk of chicken breast or thigh will ...

Dense protein, vegetables and dairy until you drop those 20lbs.  Absolutely no need to be hungry!

For about 5 years I have bashed my head against a brick wall trying to stop self appointed vitamin gurus giving out dangerous information regarding vitamin D levels and supplementation.

We all have to do our own research and make our individual decisions based on THAT knowledge.   Blindly following anyone's advice (including medical professionals) is a recipe for disaster.

I could have done it, no problem.  I had no narcotics after the day of surgery and was driving my kid to a golf lesson and looking after my 11 month old the day after I left hospital.

I was a lightweight (40 bmi) and have a good pain tolerance, so appear to have had a much easier time than some who are on narcotics for weeks.

You need to get a hematologist.  Peripheral neuropathy is a symptom of B12 deficiency - what are those numbers?  As Rocky says above, you need iron infusions.

It worries me to see surgeons and PCP's making these health decisions when it's not their area of expertise.

Topic: RE: RNY and estrogen hormone replacement

I'm riding this ***** out the natural way too.   It's taken about 5 years but I rarely flash these days, and I take a tiny dose of Effexor to deal with the anxiety and insomnia etc.

For me, hormone replacement had too many risks for the symptoms I was getting - no need to suffer as symptoms can be managed individually.

I am 11 years out and the only downside to menopause has been the slowing of my metabolism - I need less and less calories each year to maintain and it's a bit of a Rollercoaster getting the balance right.

Lora and I are both birthday twins (same month and year) and menopause twins lol.  I am battling regain (18lbs lost), and have to be super strict, but at 11 years out, still lose 1.5 to 2 lbs per week, although it is slowing.

I still sparingly eat dairy carbs, but definitely no fruit, and really only eat meat, fish, salad and vegetables.

Getting old sucks - and while the menopause symptoms are disappearing (flashes etc) thank goodness, I am pretty sure the crappy metabolism is here to stay!!

Can I ask why the iron in your multi was the determining factor?  Iron deficiency is a common problem among our population and so many of us don't even count the multi iron as we have to supplement well to remain stable.

Track your labs and if you see a downward trend AT ALL start supplementing immediately - it is nearly impossible to supplement yourself to health once your ferritin tanks - I needed two infusions in two years before I found what works for me

I'm sorry, but I can honestly say that no, I don't wish ill on people like this - even when I feel wronged.  Maybe it's maturity, or maybe it's my inherently socialist atheist nature.

I think the OP needs to look inside herself, but those of you excusing this could do with thinking twice about what has been said here.  I think this is at least as shocking as the original post.

OMG!!! We must be sisters seperated at birth!  I dont get jealous about others people looks or personalities. But it is the "accidents of birth" where someone was just born to rich parents and has all the money and connections to "keep them ahead" that really gets me. Same with looks. I dont get treat people poorly because they are unattractive ...it is an accident of birth...some genetic configurations just dont work well and a person cant help it.

So when someoen who has been genetically blessed (or has had EVERYTHING handed to them by parents/and or life) has struggle. I get happy too.

It might be kind of fun to ask her if "she is ok" and that you have noticed the smell of "alcohol on her" in the morning and perhaps she may need some counseling?  In the very least, it gets her to shower and brush her teeth before work so she doesnt stink like a bar.  At most, you have helped her get her life on track...But you also got to jab the knife in a bit too (which is kinda fun every now and then to the deserviing...which I am not sure she is...but that is up to you to decide).

Wow... You complain about people you are working with... You are so mean... Could you think they see that in you?

I don't normally see this poster because I was blocked when I called her out on her cluelessness - I see blocking was easier than learning any sort of lesson.

This thread is a whole load of fat girls who kept the chip on their shoulder.  No point improving your outside appearance if the inside stays ugly ...

I hate to break this to you, but we really are not that special.  On OH, we get to post about ourselves and we'll get a lot of attention from our peers, but I doubt the rest of the world gives a damn!

To delight in the problems of other people isn't snark, it's just plain mean.  It sounds like your colleague is experiencing some real problems, I hope you are able to reflect on this post and find it in your heart/soul to feel some sympathy/empathy.  It will make you a much more attractive person on the inside to match the new outside of which you are so proud.

If you could only do one thing for your health, give up smoking and stay fat!  Smoking is way worse for you than being obese.

I smoked for 25 years and gave up 13 years ago - two years before my surgery.  There are many ways to quit now - get help from your doctor before this becomes an issue for you.  As an aside, my 50 year old smoker sister has terminal lung cancer.  Not sure how old you are, but 50 is no age to die!
