If you are asking a question that is asked, and answered, regularly, it largely gets ignored because long timers know the answer can be found using the search function ... (or sometimes by looking further down the same page!)    I have little to offer someone who is pre-op or newly post-op because my surgery was a long time ago and things have definitely changed in 9 years!

There are, however, usually newer posters who will take their time to answer you and I should imagine you have answers by now.

My advice would be to find a BC pill that doesn't give you mood swings!!!   There are a gazillion of them out there and it often takes a month or two of trying to find one that suits you ...    Taking them for one month and giving up is not really trying to resolve the issue and if the pain is that bad, it would benefit you to really give it a try ...

I honestly don't get why RNY would make it difficult to drink as required (there's a hole at the top and bottom of your pouch that the liquid goes through kiss  like a funnel ...) but I don't see a problem if it takes you an hour or whatever more than expected - it's more important that you fini**** rather than the amount of time it takes!

I had a colonoscopy about 5 years post RNY and used Moviprep - was as clean as a whistle and actually found it really easy ...

Why not ask your doctor to check them off.   I wouldn't add them personally - I'm no legal eagle but it sounds like fraud if you are passing yourself off as your doctor!!!   If it were ok to do that, we'd all be filling in our own lab slips and there'd be no need for medical school!!!!

What on earth?   Have you got so skinny you disappeared along with your post? - that'd be a first!

Way to disrespect all the people that took time out of their day to give you opinions and suggestions - even if they weren't the ones that made you feel as special as you wanted to be.

I wish you luck!

Surgeon's preference.   Often performed on those with a higher BMI or those who may have difficulty losing with a proximal (eg revisions).   Often need to supplement vitamins like a DS'er.    There will be exceptions to all these details!

I didn't think I was being rude, but perception is reality so ... what can I say?   I had a tummy tuck at the low BMI and I doubt my skin weighed llb - I am 6ft tall so believe me, I looked more like a very tall 12 year old boy than a woman!!!   I'll bet I looked way more "skeletal" than you do if you have 6-8lbs of fat to be removed.

If you are truly unable to physcially eat or drink more calories than you say then, yes, you have a medical problem and there's not much we can do here for you.

If you wanted to have your hand patted and not get reassurance that you are by no means different to many of us, you should have said so - I was just giving you an opinion, albeit one you didn't want to hear.

You have the same BMI I had at 2 years out (21.3) - certainly not underweight (less than 18.5).    If you are that concerned, then you have to suck it up and eat more.  Not really sure why you are "terrified" at this point ...

It should be wholly possible for you to gain weight in the next year or so, if you want to!

Best advice I can give you is to be positive - I see so many people on here who are looking for problems before they even start - the vast majority of us sail through WLS, so there's a really good chance you will too.

Most people who come here do so because they have or think they have a problem - it skews the reality that most of us don't post because we have nothing to say - What are we going to say?  "I can eat/drink fine, work out fine, and am losing a bucketload of weight without stalling!"  Not likely to go across so well LOL!

Very best of luck with your surgery - I know you have had to fight really hard for this and you deserve a complication free recovery!!

I was hiking a week after surgery - not sure why a few neighbourhood hills would be out of the question!   Just get and do something - unless you have complications, I don't see any reason why you can't walk on any paved terrain ...

You'll read lots of reasons why you "shouldn't' do things after surgery, but we are all different - some people are great at making excuses and others just get on with it - you can decide which you are.   Your body will tell you how much and for how long you will be able to walk - don't let other people determine your success from the get go!

I hate it when I'm right kiss !  Thank you for making me so ....   As you know, the "theory" is that drinking while eating moves the food out of the pouch quicker, affecting satiety and thus people who are not as controlled as maybe you and I, eat more!

As I said in my post - drinking or not drinking while eating is a choice - like most things with this surgery, as long as it's an informed one, then have at it!   I am an adult that makes hers, as you are, and we are both successful.   Those coming behind us have to know what works for them - we can only offer our personal experiences and anecdotal "evidence" and leave them to it ...

I'm surprised you haven't made this a habit by 10.5 weeks!    People come up with all sorts of reasons and justifications why they can't do this and at the end of the day it's a choice.  You are either going to do it or you are not.    However, with a few exceptions, who'll probably chime in here, most people *****gain post that they drink with their meals ...

People generally develop habits over a 3 week period or so, so you should be golden by now.   I have never drunk with my food (a habit from my childhood) so it's wholly possibly to do it physiologically - it's just a habit you have to break by not having drink on the table while you eat until it gets to be the norm ...

I also don't believe that 3500 calories = 1lb of fat for most of us formerly fat people either!   I can put on a lb with a lot less extra calories than that and I am better off than most.

I know people who have had RNY and VSG who exist on way less than 1000 calories a day or they gain - substituting protein shakes for food for two meals a day EVERY day!     I'm lucky to maintain on about 1500-2000 per day and will lose on less - even at this stage.

I think a lot of us need to eat well and exercise well from as early after WLS as possible to stand any chance of living a life NOT on a perpetual diet of less than 1000 calories a day!!!

Yep, we will agree to disagree.  ;o)  I what you said was accurate nobody would lose weight with or without surgery due to years of yo yo dieting.  We are a population that does tend to blame metabolism for all those white carbs we consume.

I can eat 800 calories a day of white carbs and lose at a snails pace.  Or, I can eat 800 calories a day of protein and veggies and lose like crazy, even now at goal.

I would check your BMR and see what those numbers show.   Not the on line calculator but the actual diagnostic test.

I agree about eating well and exercise, that is what has kept me at goal for over 5 years now.

You only eat 800 calories a day???

I have never had my BMR measured - I kind of have a handle on it at this point, but I would certainly do so if I found I had to drastically reduce my calories to maintain.

I like my lifestyle and my relationship with food and the amount I am able to eat, and honestly, I really do want others to be able to do the same because I don't seem to have the struggles that my long term peers are experiencing  - but realise I can only speak to my own experience with RNY ...   I am certainly no expert on others' experience with RNY or any other surgery!

Congratulations on maintaining at goal for 5 years!

A calorie restricted diet like this BEFORE surgery?   Perfect way to put your metabolism into the crapper!!!!   To be honest, as soon as I see a programme that advocates low fat eating, I know they are stuck in the 1990's in terms of nutrition education.   We all need good fat in our diet to absorb nutrients and vitamins - that doesn't mean we should eat fried food or high fat processed food, but low fat food often generally means higher carb or added sugar (taste has to come from somewhere!)

Personally, I wouldn't eat any less than 1200 calories per day on any extended pre-op diet - you need to be as healthy as you can for your surgery and the weeks of recovery afterwards.

Hernias are not usually as a result of WLS;  most people have them because of their obesity and have them fixed during or after their surgery.   Bowel obstruction is a very rare complication.

From what you have posted here, I don't think you are getting very good information from your support group - you might consider doing some research elsewhere to get a true picture of what each surgery is and what percentage of complications are possible/probable with each.

These boards are not indicative either as people rarely post that all is normal and they are getting on with their lives - people post about their problems and use it as an opportunity to moan and groan about little daily difficulties.

Aside from anaemia problems (which often come with all different types of WLS), - as I said before, I haven't had any complications and I think I am the rule rather than the exception!
