    Topic: -42 lbs and counting.

So here I sit in my office and I am grinning ear to ear because I just got off the scales about 2 hours ago and I am down -42 lbs since November 9th.  I mean wow!  All I did was start paying attention to the calories again.  Thank you RNY for sticking with me!

I am happy again after having been nearly 10 years out from surgery to find myself having regain weight it was very frightening!  But, I cut back to < 2000 calories per day and I am seeing the results.  I use to post on these boards all the time back in 2002- 2003 so I thought I would come here for my moral support!

Thanks fellow Sojourners for making the journey fun!

Topic: Stepped on the scales...and it wasn't good

It was freaking fantastic!  Down -38 lbs since November 9th and I feel fabulous!  My posts are mostly geared towards longer-term post-ops who are struggling with weight regain.  I too have had this issue but I took back control on November 9th and I am see great results.

I don't promote any specific diet or method what I recommend is find the method that works for you.  But, here is what I am doing:

50% of my calories are consumed before 10am.
30% of my calories are consumed before 3pm.
20% of my calories are consumed before 7pm.

I am on a 1500 - 2000 calorie per day diet.  I mainly stay with Chicken, fish, turkey.  Lots of turkey these days!

*No matter what you do take your vitamins, drink fluids (water) and always consult a physician if you dieting for more than a few weeks.

I feel good about my plan and I invite anyone to tell me your plan too.  Always nice to share ideas!

    Topic: Weekend plans?

    Fellow Sojourners,

So what amazing, marvelous, and new life things are you planning this weekend?  Are you planning to do something you've never done?  Maybe go ice skiing?  What about a movie?  How about just walking the entire mall 'just because'?  No matter what you do this weekend - get out and enjoy your life.  I think we forget that our journey is about living life and doing the things we dreamed about.

What I am doing this weekend?  I am spending the weekend with the most wonderful girl in the whole world - my precious daughter.  We always plan our weekends with a least one major fun thing.  This weekend - indoor playground and pizza (for her...)

My diet continues to be working.  After 9 years of being a RNY patient I decided the weight regain was NOT ok and I am counting calories and watching what I eat.  No regrets only more victories to be had.

No matter where you find yourself this weekend - preop, postop, or a family supporter do something that reminds you that you are alive and here for a reason.

Tell me your story...what you got planned?

    Topic: RE: Scared and confused....

    Lisa,

It sounds like you have been confused by hopefully well meaning individuals but you have to be clear in your own heart.  Your weight regain due to steroids is understandable - don't beat yourself up.  Just draw a line in the sand (metaphor) and say "from today on I am resolved to look forward and not back" - and only look to your goal.  Focus your attention on one day at a time.

Now, it's normal to question surgery type.  It's like a coke,Pepsi, RC cola debate.  In the end, only you and your surgeon should make this decision.  Do not allow anyone to influence you away from your surgeons opinion.  However, if you are not confident in he or she you should get a second opinion to be sure.  Depending on your BMI your choices may range from Band to DS.  Your surgeon knows your body better than us...listen to them.  (Make sure they are not biased.  Some doctors LIKE certain surgery's over others for many reason but make sure they will point you to the ONE that is best for you regardless of their 'like and dislike').

    Good luck Lisa...

    Your friend in the journey...

    Topic: RE: Band or Sleeve?

You and your surgeon are the best judge here.  But, you also have to be informed.  I recommend going to the VSG forum and the Band forums and asking honest questions.  In the end, this is your journey and you ahve to be at peace with your decision.

Topic: Shopping on the skinny side of the closet!

    Hello fellow sojourners,

This diet monitoring and calorie counting isn't all bad...because I went shopping in the 'skinny side' of the closet for a pair of jeans and guess what?  They freaking fit!  (happy dance ensued!)   You know after being 9.5 years out from RNY; I never thought I would have to count calories and pay attention but I realized that was just a myth and not a reality.

When I had surgery my surgeon didn't have much experience with 'long term' outcomes he was an exceptional surgeon and he had a wonderful bedside manner.  But, what he lacked was the data that is now available to the industry.  The surgery is a short-cut (help, aid, tool) but it doesn't replace the mental commitment it takes to go the distance on this journey.

So when I found myself having regained 110 lbs after losing 385 --I was feeling really bummed and I just didn't want to admit that I a responsibility to keep going.  Keep journeying!  So...I woke up on November 9th and said "enough is enough" - and I have been counting calories every since.  Down (-30) lbs and feeling very confident again.

That brings me back into the closet.  I was looking for pants and I saw a pair of jeans on the 'skinny' side and thought - "I wonder?" I pulled them off the hanger and put them on and wow not only did they fit they REALLY fit (come on you know what I mean...) ...Yes, I turned to see how my butt looked (don't say you've never done it!!!!) - so there I was with my 'skinny' jeans on and I was having a party of one!

Good times on the journey...join the celebration !!!!

Topic: Today is a good day to begin again! -regain topic.

    Fellow sojourners,

Everyone always says this ...."I will start my diet on Monday" - well Monday dear friends has come and gone.  Today is Tuesday!  Today is a good day to diet too!  Before anyone freaks about the word diet; I am only talking to those that need to hear those words.  If that is NOT you then you should just ignore the word.  But dieting is a reality.  The word means -"controlling nutritional intake" don't we all do that anyway?  Why are we afraid of that word?  Let's just embrace the word for what it is - a reality check for us all.

I am not in the business of telling you how to diet but I can say this...find a plan or make one that works for you.  I made up my own diet.  It is working for me.  I would be glad to share my plan with anyone who wishes.  I began on November 9th and have lost 30 lbs (through the Holidays!).

No matter what you plan you use - TODAY is always the best day to start it.  I am going on 10 years post op and my goal is to be down 100 lbs by November 9 2012.  That would be back at my lowest weight in my journey.

Celebrating my journey today - I plan to upload MYJOURNEY today...how about you?

    Your fellow journeyman,

    Bo

    Hey Diva,

You're awesome yourself. Thanks for the support.  I don't wish anyone to befall any 'kneecaping' in fact - I would be very happy if we all 'just got along' - thank you Rodney King for the quote.

    OMG.

Way to cause your brother to cry in the middle of the afternoon.  Thank you.  I love you.  Not sure what made you do this but I suppose you have every right to have an opinion on obesity and how it impacts families too.   You just humbled your big brother!

I am sorry and thanful in the same moment.  Speechless.

    *wow.

    Love you,

Topic: RE: To those that consider my surgery a failure -

I am sorry I totally forgot to answer the part of your posting that was important to me!  DUH,

*Yes my RNY was perfect for me.  I am sure DS or VSG could have been equally awesome but at the time my surgeon told me that I shouldn't consider anything except RNY [looking back I realize now that meant he wasn't comfortable with the other surgeries].  I have come to realize that all surgery types are 100% valid depending on the type of person [BMI, etc].

I give you my word - if this self-inflicted diet that I put myself on doesn't work I will consider full revision but I owe it to myself to try to stay out from the knife - [I've had lots of surgery - don't want to push the luck]

Thanks for the post (I apologize I missed this in my response)

I have to say that my surgery didn't fail me.  I failed myself but that is something I can fix [and I am doing just that].

I am sorry though you must have misread this posting because I never mentioned MM nor DS in my threads.  There is a lot of subjective assertions to that fact but review the thread I didn't mention either one as being any relation to this post.
