Topic: RE: Halloween candy confessions !!!!!!!!!
I have discovered that I don't dump, which is not really a good thing.  One of the reasons I chose RNY was for the disincentive to eat sugar, but what are you gonna do?

I"ve grazed a fair amount, but have really tried to not go overboard.  Haven't broken 170 yet, and my goal weight was always 175, so I'm feeling OK.  Eager for this candy to be GONE.

    Topic: RE: Blood Donation Post-op
I donated a week ago, and while my iron levels were fine at the donation, it apparently knocked me out of whack enough that my doc put me liquid iron and potassium.  The most revolting stuff in the universe.  She said I should have waited at least a year to try to donate.  Hindsight....

Topic: RE: How long do you lose?
I'm just past 7 months out and I'm almost 10 pounds under my goal weight.  It's starting to make me nervous.  I've heard some people say that you lose for 18 months, but that can't happen for me....I'd be emaciated.  I"ve lost about 120 pounds at this point - I"m 165 and 5' 10.5" tall, 41 years old.  I really want to stop losing.  Things slowed down for a while at about 174 and I was totally happy, thinking I had bottomed out, but suddenly I've lost another 8 pounds in 2 weeks.  I feel like I"m eating all the time, but I'm still losing (my choices remain healthy ones).  I also know that I will probably gain some back, but even my mom and my husband - my two biggest cheerleaders through this whole thing - are starting to worry about how thin I am.

How will my body know it's time to stop?

I had RNY but it sounds totally normal to me.  I still burp a lot - and I NEVER used to burp before.

Topic: RE: Which carbs to avoid/eat?
I wasn't getting enough carbs initially.  I couldn't figure out why I had zero energy and couldn't focus on anything.  I swear it was a struggle to remember my own phone number.  Carbs are absolutely necessary for you.  Focus on healthy carbs - whole grains, low fat dairy etc.  Skip the sugars and "white" carbs (like white bread, white rice) etc.  The key is balance, IMHO.  I don't strive for 90 grams of protein a day - I'd eat nothing but protein - but I do strive to make protein the highest percentage of my diet.  Fresh veggies and some fruits comes next, carbs last.  My advice is to focus on balance.

Topic: RE: Does Lexapro make you gain weight???
I've been on lexapro for years as well.  It hasn't seemed to affect me one way or the other either before or after.  I do tend to eat more when I"m fighting depression though, so for me anyway, that's a more serious weight gain concern than lexapro itself.

I need to buy a new pair of jeans too.  I've been wearing 12's in work clothes, but they are kind of loose and I'm wondering if a 10 would work in jeans.  We'll see! :)

Topic: RE: HELP! Lapband tomorrow and can't quit crying
I think it's just nerves and if you are emotional anyway, then you are expressing it in a normal way for you.  I wouldn't try to fight it - that will just make it worse.  Just go with it today - let it all out.  You'll probably feel more calm afterward.  And I think they will expect people to be somewhat nervous/tearful....this is a big deal.

You're going to be fine and will feel so great in a few months, you'll back at this and laugh.

Topic: RE: When to Count Loss as "Onederland"?
I have always understood "Onederland" as when your weight starts with a 1...as i*****The Century Club is when you've lost 100 pounds (even if you still weigh over 200).

    Regardless, congratulations!!!

Yay for you!  I had the same experience recently.  I ended up buying a lot of stuff that I'm hoping I'll be able to wear for a while.  I'm not sure how long the losing lasts.  I'm only 5-10 pounds from goal at this point, so I have to think it's going to stop soon.  And it has slowed down a fair amount.  But, it's an AWESOME feeling!!

For the last week or so, every time I eat (and some other times too), I get heart palpitations.  It's not dumping, it happens no matter what I'm eating and I don't feel sick or anything.  Has anyone else had this?

Topic: RE: RNY Surgery this Monday -- any words of wisdom?
I didn't have to do any special pre-surgery diet either.  I think it was because I was considered a lightweight.

Words of wisdom....you are very likely to get your period unexpectedly right after surgery (within a week or so).  I'm guessing the surgery just kind of jolts your body into it.  It happened to me and I've seen a lot of others post that here too.

You are likely to have very loose stools for a while once you start eating liquids.  Liquid in, liquid out.  Not to worry.

I was astonished at how thirsty I was for the first week or so.  Since I couldn't take in more than about 2 oz at a time, it was tough to quench my thirst.  Popsicles are good (SF of course) and sometimes I would just swish cold water around in my mouth.

You will probably have some days of real regret.  You will miss food, you will think you made a huge mistake.  But this will pass.  It's totally normal.

Good luck on your journey.  You are going to eventually love what this will do for your life.

Topic: RE: Can someone remind me?
Why we are supposed to avoid carbonation?  I've never been much of a soda drinker, so it hasn't been that big a deal for me, but for some reason I just really wanted a diet coke today and couldn't remember why I shouldn't have it.  I remember someone saying that they whole idea of the bubbles stretching the pouch was a myth....anyone know?

    Topic: RE: Coffee???
I drink coffee about 4-5x a week.  I use Truvia or Splenda, but I even use regular half and half (gasp!!!).  And I've lost 84 pounds in 4 months.  I hardly consider that sabotage.

Topic: RE: How much are u loseing each week?
For the first couple of weeks I was losing more than a pound a day.  It was astonishing and it didn't last very long.  Then I hit a small stall and when it broke, I was losing about half a pound a day.  That continued until my 3 month stall which just broke and I'm now losing about 2-3 pounds a week.

    Topic: RE: Hernia symptoms?
I had open RNY and developed a severe wound infection with full dehiscence. My fascia completely separated as well so my surgeon said I am 100% guaranteed to develop a hernia within 6-9 months.

I'm now almost 4 months post-op, and have slacked off on not picking up heavy things. A couple of times, after lifting something heavy (once I picked up my 65 pound son, that kind of thing), I have felt some mild pain and what seemed like a....I don't know....lump, I guess....just to the right of my incision scar.

The pain doesn't usually last long (a few hours) and truth be told, there are a lot of new bumps and lumps in my abdomen due to multiple procedures done during my surgery. Still, I'm thinking it might be the beginning of my hernia.

If you've had a post-op hernia, were your symptoms sudden? Painful? Happened after straining or lifting? Not? Tell me how it went for you.

    Thanks all!
