Topic: RE: What can you do NOW that you couldn't do before WLS
I wear 4 inch heels all day and my feet don't hurt at the end of the day.

I walked into a boardroom full of top executives of a fairly large-ish corporation and told them that they were all full of sh*t - I have a natural confidence about me.  Helps that I know what I am talking about.  It was not this easy when I was 320 lbs.

I get to wear designer clothes.  My boyfriend who is amazing and spoils the **** out of me just bought me an Oscar de la Renta dress which is stunning.

I start conversations with random people.

I don't think everyone is judging me when I eat an ice cream.

I eat with out tons of guilt surrounding the whole food thing.

I have run 23 kilometers in under 2 hours.  I hike, swim and go white water rafting.  I love the outdoors.

    I wear SHORTS.  Imagine that.

I am not sweating the minute it hits the upper 70's.  In fact I was freezing all day today in the air conditioning in my office.

I fit in an economy airplane seat, and while its not comfortable, my seatmate is not inconvenienced.

    Topic: RE: Bowel Control
Absolutly you need to food journal.  For DSers it could be too much fat and not enough calcium (and that could be the same for RnY'ers) but I am sure they are going to come along and help you figure that out.

What rabbitfoot said.  It does not even make it into our blood stream.  I eat it then I poop it out.  My cholesterol is picture perfect!

Topic: RE: This is overwhelming :)
Because DSers malabsorb about 80-90% of the fat they eat.  Butter, cream, cheese anything high fat is basically a free food for us.  And that stays for life, not like the RNY where the body overcomes the slight malabsorbtion.

Topic: RE: Yet another pre-surgery liquid diet rant... I got FOUR weeks!
Hey I love my socialized medicine too... But I got to choose the surgeon, hospital, type of surgery AND the program I attended.   And the wait was 6 months from the time I completed all the testing.

Amber, sorry you are dealing with this.  It sucks.  Just do make sure you are taking supplements and doing protein shakes so you are not low on protein as that can really affect your bodies ability to heal.

    Topic: RE: Tongue Problems
Any issues with my tongue are directly related to naicin deficancy for me.  I have been through this twice now.  My tongue gets red, sore and swollen and sore start to devlop - however the first sign for me is always a red tongue with swollen and raised taste buds.  A nice big dose of Niacin (Vitamin b3) takes care of it very nicely.

PM me if you have any questions....

The best thing about all this drama has been the hilarious photos.  You all out do yourselves every time.  Freakin hilarious.

I do feel sorry for the parties involved that have some weird compulsion for posting on the main board every 5 minutes.  Its almost like a nervous tic.  What ever it is, it has been keeping me entertained for days.
    Topic: RE: iron supplement question
I use the heme kind, 3x a day.  All the other kinds constipated me terribly and my iron was sinking.  Since switching my iron is great and you can take heme iron with food which is a great plus.  It also does not conflict with calcium.

If you are going to get a revision done, the the DS done.  Best long term weight loss statistics, much more forgiving than the RNY (you can eat as much fat as you want).  Find out more here: www.dsfacts.com.

Topic: RE: how old were u when u got ur surgery?
I was 27 when I had surgery.  Two days later I turned 28.  It took me about 3 years to accept that I really was *THAT* fat.  Part of it too was that the RNY just didn't sound right to me.  When I heard about the DS that sealed the deal for me.  Took me 8 months of waiting to have it done but I am pleased.

    Topic: RE: new here...trouble deciding!
I chose the DS.  I KNEW I would out eat the sleeve in a matter of months.  I had to be honest with myself on that.  The sleeve is going to help you loose weight.  The DS will help you keep it off.  With the sleeve you might find yourself back to dieting in a few years.

Saying that, even DSers absorb most carbohydrates.  We can eat with impunity fat ladened foods though, like butter, more butter, bacon, cheese etc.  A good dessert for a DSer would be one that has lots of fat (cause you don't get any of it) say cheese cake or ice cream and not a cupcake.  I like that.

For BMIs over 50 all the research shows that you are much better off with the DS.  You lose more weight and keep it off.  For me it was that simple.

    Tammy,

I am seven months out of my DS (in 3 days) and have lost almost 120 lbs.  My stats are below.  Best thing I ever did for myself.   Love that I can eat real foods and not have to worry about having enough choices.  Love the size 12 jeans I wear.  I think you made the right decision.  Welcome to the Dark Side :)
