    Topic: RE: Anyone taking Lyrica?
I took it for a short time for fibromyalgia.  At first I slept all the time.  When I finally got through that and was able to wake up enough to take my meds, I had a reaction from Lyrica and my BP meds that was a horrible case of hives.  In addition, my hands, wrists, face and neck were very swollen.  My doctor switch me to neurontin (sp), which caused the same swelling problems.  I had to stop taking it.  I hope you do better!

Kathi, How long after surgery did you have to wait before you started taking diclofenac?

Topic: RE: knee replacement prior to age 60?
Hi, I had bi-lateral total knee replacement 4 years ago.  My surgeon put me off for years and tried other surgeries, but nothing worked.  Both knees were bone on bone and had been for years.  It wasn't fun to do both at one time, but I literally didn't have a good leg to stand on.  And, I figured if I had one done, I'd chicken out and never go back for the other.  I'm very glad I had it done and would do it again.  In fact, I'll probably have to do it again in another 10 years or so.  It got me out of the wheelchair and I'm glad I didn't wait any longer. I've been taking diclofenac also.  My surgeon told me that I couldn't take it after RNY surgery because it might cause ulcers.  If I have to choose between arthritis meds and RNY, I'll have to stay fat.

    Diclofenac is an anti-inflammatory.

    Topic: RE: all the help
They get you out of the bed at the hospital the next day.  Some surgeons will get their patients up the same day if they are awake enough. They brought a walker into the room for me to use and helped me move from the bed to the chair for lunch and dinner.  I was "allowed" breakfast in bed every day.  They hooked me up to a CPM every day to help the knees bend.  After surgery, the thigh muscles don't want to work.  The surgeon told me the thighs are the last to "wake up". It was no picnic, but it gets better.

I'm waiting on a WLS surgery date also.  I'm on diclofenac and worried about going off it before surgery also.

Topic: RE: Total knee replacement and not over 50 with Rheumatoid arthritis
I had bilateral total knee replacement surgery about 3 yrs ago.  You'll be glad you did it.  Granted, the surgery and immediate post-op is not much fun, but it gets better and even goes away.    Y ou're welcome to email me if you have any questions.

    Topic: RE: Arthritis medications
Have you talked to your surgeon about going back on your diclofenac?  I take that also.  While it doesn't completely relieve the pain, I can't do anything at all without it.  Stopping it is out of the question.  If it's a choice between no arthritis meds and WLS, the WLS will have to be put on hold.  :(  I'll be eager to see what you find out about your arthritis meds.

Topic: RE: re: Double knee surgery on Jan 18th
I had both mine replaced at the same time.  It wasn't fun.  Unfortunately, I didn't have a good leg to stand on if I just did one, so we went with both.  Double the pain, double the fun... but both fixed in one..

    Topic: RE: Arthritis pain worse
I have a theory on this...  After WLS, your body doesn't have as much fat in the joints to cushion them, making them more painful.  ...just my theory...

Topic: RE: Pre-op saying goodbye to nsaids in 2 weeks!
Going off my arthritis meds is something that has held me back from WLS surgery.  I did have bilateral knee replacement surgery three years ago.  If anybody needs any info on that, feel free to email me. I can tell you, however, that I had to have another surgery (female type) and didn't have notice to go off my nsaids.  I did fine taking them right up until the surgery and immediately after it. Since pills are difficult for post WLS surgery, I'm not sure what happens for people who still need to take their arthritis meds post-op.  Anybody?

Topic: RE: NSAIDS and Bariatric Surgery?
I keep reading in the forums that NSAIDS are on the no-no list post-bariatric surgery. Anybody get a different directive from their doc? I'm on anti-inflammatories for arthritis (pretty much all over), but I don't think that weight loss is going to ease the pain in my hands from arthritis. Comments, please?
