I have been goofy about this for a day now, I am beyond proud of my resting heart rate!  Yesterday, during my pre exam work up, I was asked by one of my buddies at my doc's office, "What's your number going to be?" as he pulled out the pressure cuff.  I told him I was confident it would be around 108/72 -- nailed it!

He went on to say he was impressed with how my heart sounded while taking my blood pressure, so he challenged me again, "what's your heart rate going to be?"  I him-hawed a little, as I get a little "white coat anxiety," and I had been chatting for about 15 minutes with him - in my usual animated way (it's a workout for me just telling stories, I swear!).  My range I gave was mid sixty, but no higher than seventy-two.

I watched and waited, almost slugged him in his shoulder, while he did his math... Fifty-two!  REALLY?!?  I actually hollered something about kicking Chuck Norris' butt, then apologized for getting so loud over my NSV.

Okay, the whole Chuck Norris thing is an inside joke in my home, but it makes me laugh each time I say, "Hey Chuck, I got YOUR number..."

It has been probably a decade since I had a resting heart rate in the fifties, I am pretty excited!  Non Scale Victories are sometimes what keep us going forward!!!!

Thanks!!!  Someone asked about finding ther resting heartrate -- take your pulse for ten seconds, multiply by 6.

For target heartrate take 220 (men it's 226) minus your age, and multiply by .7 -- this is "optimal fat burning zone".  If you are just starting out, multiply by .5 -- and go from there.  If you can hold a conversation while exercising, you are breathing just fine!
