Newbie pre op with a BMI of 62

Hi all so glad I found this sub forum! I've looked around and you all are doing amazing and are such an inspiration to me! I'm still pre op and my BMI is 62- I'm 377 and 5'5 and I'll be having VSG. It's so nice to see others who started out around my size because and although I'm not trying to discredit anyone's journey, but to see all the people with starting weights in the low and mid 200 rang- it's just not comparable. I belong to another forum for VSG surgery and really hadn't seen many people with starting weights like mine and I was getting a little discouraged, so coming here is refreshing- people who can relate on a deeper level. Someone on here said that our journey is different from someone who is starting at say 250 and I truley believe it is. We aren't going to reach our goal in under a year like most, it's going to take more time and dedication which I'm ready for.

Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. You are all such an inspiration to me just starting out- especially my fellow VSGers who have lost so much- so thank you all! :)

    WELCOME WELCOME WELCOME

    I'm glad you found us!

I'm a VSGer. I used to search for the biggest losers also.  They exist.  There many who started over 400 pounds. I used to just focus on their posts.  Sorry, I'm not as diligent on VSG forum as I used to.  I tend to check here first and only glance there if I have time. I did find the forum pretty useful after my surgery.

    Pre-liquid diet 392; VSG'd on 6/10/11; 5'9"; SW 368/ GW 195?

    Pounds lost: mth1=26.7; mth 2=21.2; mth 3=24.8; mth 4=13.8; mth 5=14.2;

Welcome to an awesome forum!!!  Lots of great folks here who also had VSG.  I am a RNY'r, but dont hold that against me.

    Hi Robin,

I began the journey at 356 lbs and 5'5. I was so happy to find this room on the forum. Everyone here is so nice.

My journey has had its up and downs but it is a gift. I cried when the scale slid past the 300 mark into the 200's. I'll never forget the day I went to the doctor and the nurse had me get on the scale for my annual gyne appointment. i slid the weighter to 300 and it went thud. Too heavy! I was so happy. That was 16 lbs ago.

I have little in common with the folks who have 75 lbs to lose, but someday I hope to be one of them .

    Best,

    Sharon

    Welcome!
I totally understand your feeling of discouragement. I am so glad I found this forum. It's nice to have people who are going through the same issues that I am having started at a higher weight. I know you're gonna do awesome!

Yes, finding other "heavyweights" around here was a blessing for me as well.  Seeing someone who weighed 220lbs having surgery was always so hard on me.  I kept thinking "wow, if I was 220lbs I'd be MORE than happy".  And I wasn't disparaging them... we all make our own choices.  But you're right... starting at 460 lbs, it was hard for me to even remotely conceptualize someone under 250lbs needing/wanting any WLS.

Glad you found us!  I'm a DS'er myself and I wouldnt' have it any other way.  You'll find a LOT of strong opinions about the different surgery types (myself included).  Just do what's right for you!

Thanks so much for the replies everyone! It's so nice to find other people who understand what I'm going through- and will be going through. My best friend is overweight also- she's about 270lbs and although she understand my struggles to a degree she doesn't get a lot of things. She and I were suppose to be going to have surgery at the same time but she's decided to back out because she wants to do it on her own- which I respect but I KNOW there is no way I can do it on my own. It's a compleatly different monster. Like you said halblingefrau, if I were 220lbs I'd be thrilled! It's a different ballgame.

So glad you are all here now! I'll be finishing all my pre op stuff in mid September and- fingers crossed should be having surgery in early October! Since I have like 2 and a half months I'm trying to lose a bit of weight pre op- eating low carb so I'm hoping I can loose 20-30lbs. Thanks everyone for being so awesome!

Hi Robin! Welcome, glad you found us!  I was like you, the lack of higher BMIs on the other board made me feel as if I should choose RNY to get to my goal even though I didn't want it. Luckily one night I found this board and I was home.  Good luck and keep in touch!!!

    Hi

Nice to have you here!  I am kind of new too.  I started at 360 and this morning, 320.7, in 6 weeks (2 on optifast and 4 post op)

I am still ajusting, but I have no regrets on the surgery itself and even less regrets on the type of surgery I chose, I could not have chosen differently!

Love my VSG, but still struggling to eat all I have to eat lol!  Never thought I would say this in my life!

    You'll get there too!

I my I am so happy to have found all  of you. I am pre-op everything complete except the weight loss. Been on the lean and green but think I will be switching to the Medifast. Weight is very slow at coming off. 414 Sw 403 Cw in three weeks. Maybe I am nuts but so many people said us "bigger" people the weight comes off quicker, well I am still waiting LOL. Has anyone felt like that or had slower weight loss pre-op obviously there isn't something I am not doing right. Any suggestions?
Hi!! I am new too and feeling the same way! I am at 399 and really wanted to see what others were experiencing being around this weight. Nice to see that I am not alone in my thinking- or weight.
