I am a 525 pound guy getting ready for surgery trying to decide between the regular and the roun-y gastric bypass.

I think you're talking about the same thing.  What most people regard as "gastric bypass" is the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass.  Your stomach is turned into a small pouch and about 5 feet or so of intestine is bypassed.  Maybe you're thinking of the Duodenal Switch?

If you're still in the research phase, I highly recommend the book, "WLS For Dummies".  I read it before my own surgery in 2013 and it is very informative!

Yes, you need to double check what procedures they are offering you . Roux-n-y RNY and gastric bypass are the same. There is a mini bypass but in US rarely done and from what I understand not recommended. If you look in the menus on this site they explain the different procedures.
