    Help diagnosed with breast cancer.

I have been diagnosed with ER+/PR+ and HER2 positive breast cancer.  I have completed my harsh chemo (taxol & Carbo). Now I need herceptin for a week for the next 8 - 12 months.  I am really nervous that I am going to gain weight taking the herceptin.
Anybody ever have any weight gain or weight loss  with this herceptin?

i am almost 8 years out from my wls and right now i don't care if i gain weight- i need to get the cancer out of me- but that's my attitude!

i came here today looking for info on what we actually CAN and SHOULD eat as opposed to what we SHOULDN'T!

Wow that is harsh treatment!  Congrats on finishing your last chemo. I too was diagnosed ER+/PR+/Her2+  I started my TCH treatments the day after Thanksgiving 2010, I finished the chemo portion on March 11, 2011 and FINALLY just finished my last Herceptin a few days before Thanksgiving  2011 and my port removed the day before Thanksgiving. Wow what a whirlwind of treatments but trust me time does fly during the year.
I was scared so badly about gaining weight during Herceptin only. Actually I didn't even gain a pound. Since I finished Herceptin however I have gained 5 pounds. Something I really need to get on top of. I was so worried about gaining during Herceptin I think I wasn't paying close enough attention once I was done.
Good luck on your continued treatment, the hard part is over now. If you want to PM me I would be more than happy to answer any of your questions you may have

Thanks for responding I really appreciate that. So far nothing extreme withthe herceptin. I realized i need to really ger life in order.  I am in the process of re-evaluating my stress levels in my life.  Now that I had ll my surguries to remove anything producing a hormone.  I gonna starting walking again to build up my energy levels again.

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis but glad you are doing well.   I was diagnosed with breast cancer last year but did not need to have chemo.  Sounds like a rough treatment.

Did Dr. Rashid do your bariatric surgery and your breast surgery?  I think she is the greatest.  She did my breast surgery.  Dr. Steinberg did the bariatrics as well as removal of the gallbladder.

Try not to worry too much about the weight gain.  Your mind should be on recovery and becoming cancer free.

She left the original office at the Atlanta Medical Center.  I have not been bale to find her since can you please direct me.  Thanks so much for the response.  Yes, I am staying focused on being healthy. Everybody thinks Im strange for wanting to loose these 20lbs, but its was driving me crazy
Dr, Rashid left that practice and is now  at DeKalb Medical Center doing general surgery, breast surgery and bariatric surgery.  Her number is 404-501-7081.

You may want to look into DIEP. That's what I had done and I am THRILLED with the results. I had it done at the time of the original surgery but it can be done even afterwards. You need to find a very skilled plastic surgeon to do this surgery. There are not a lot around. Mine was very well known for outstanding DIEP results at the Mayo here in Phoenix.
I was originally offered a lumpectomy. It was me who (based off family history) asked for a double mastectomy. I had no idea at the time that there was a surgery called DIEP until my oncologist from the Mayo told me about it.
It's one hell of a surgery but it will give you new breasts and a tummy tuck. Insurance paid for it all. They don't balk at things breast cancer related, I have crappy insurance and it was covered for me.
My breasts look so natural (for actually being my tummy fat and not real breast tissue) that even my OB/GYN doctor commented about them at my yearly check up. She isn't from the Mayo, had only heard about the surgery but never had a patient who had it done. She looked at my breast in this perplexed stare and said, "If I didnt know any better, I would think you had a breast reduction because of how your scars look, that does NOT look like someone who's had a double mastectomy"

Was she HER2 positive and on TCH treatments as well?  There are many different types of chemos and  treatments. Some cause weight gain and puffiness. Others cause weight loss. The standard care for triple positive breast cancer is TCH unless it's metastasized. It's hard to compare one treatment with another. I had the exact treatment she is on.
