Topic: RE: HELP! Endocrinologist has abandoned me!
I am scheduled for surgery tomorrow and having second thoughts. I am a Type I Diabetic and on a pump. Last week, I sent my endo an email asking for post-operative guidelines for my blood sugars. Essentially she has left it up to the surgeon to handle everything. SERIOUSLY? So now I am on my own on this. Not giving me such a comforting feeling. I am going to ask my surgeon if its possible to order an endo consult after my surgery while in the hospital. I have been diabetic for over 30 years and have never had surgery, this is scaring the daylights out of me!

Has anyone Type I or II had to deal with a situation like this? If so how did you handle it?

Sue - Thanks for your supportive words. I guess its just the pre-surgery jitters! I know it is for the best but just afraid of the unknown.

I finally got my surgery date of August 8th! I have decided to have the Sleeve procedure. However my mind has not stopped racing since I set the date. I have never had surgery and I am scared to death that something will go wrong. I keep hearing about embolisms and because I live a sedatary lifestyle I am assuming I am at a greater risk. Also I am nervous about post surgery procedures with my Type I Diabetes. I have read several posts on this website and have had many of my questions answered. However I just can't keep my mind to stop. I have a wonderful 4 year old son and I am terrified that something will happen and that I won't see him or my husband again. Just looking for support and reassurance.

    Topic: RE: Type 1.5 Diabetic
I was told that I am a Type 1.5 Diabetic. A Type I with Type II tendencies, weight gain with uncontrolled blood sugars.  I am currently taking Victoza 1.8mg.  My last A1c went from 9 to 7.6! And I have lost approximately 11 lbs.  So the drug is very effective.  Here is my question: I am considering VSG and would like to know is your appetitie severly depressed with this procedure? I have read other posts and individuals stated that post-op VSG they did not have hunger suppression. I am wondering if I need to continue my Victoza for blood sugar control along with the procedure.  Looking forward for your input/advice.

Mishelle, Missy and Lucycat, thank you for all of your support and information.  I will probably have my surgery in December.  I don't even have a date yet, but I am excited and getting more and more nervous.   Never having surgery before is scary enough but I don't want anything to happen post-op because of my diabetes.  I look forward to any further advice, stories, etc.

    Hi There!

I have had Type I Diabestes for over 30 years.  I am currently using an insulin pump with  continuous glucose sensors.  I met with my surgeon this week and he recommending VSG.  I was dead set on the Band, however after doing research, talking with my surgeon and others who have had the procedure, I think the Sleeve would be the best choice. After researching  several WLS surgery programs and experiencing many surgeons who have never performed the procedure on a Type I, I have finally found one that I am comfortable and confident with.

If everything goes well I will have my surgery in December!  I am going back and forth whether or not I am making the right decision.  I worry about complications from the surgery but I am especially concerned about my post op care.  The idea of a liquid diet scares me to death.

I would like to know other Type I Diabetics that have had the VSG and their experience!  I look forward in reading your posts. Thanks.

    Hi There!

I am over 30 years Type I Diabetic and currently seeking what WLS to have as well.  I am currently on an insulin pump with a continuous glucose sensor.  I have a three year old son and too feel that I don't want to be the "fat" mom.  I have meet with my surgeon this week and he is recommending the Sleeve.  I was dead set on the Band, however after doing research, talking with my surgeon and other individuals that have had the procedure, I think the Sleeve would be the best choice.

I am looking for any advice from Type I diabetics that are on a pump and has had the Sleeve procedure.  I would like to know their experience and  how they handled the first few weeks post op!  I look forward hearing from you!  Thanks.
