I see varying sizes.... what is considered more aggresive, > 100? Or is 50 - 75 more aggresive?  I am trying to interpret the pcitures and stuff I have been reading, but I still dont get it.

Ahhh, see! I am too new - I need to learn more!!  I think I do mean the common channel.  I've seen here 50 - 150.  My doctor today said he does between 50 and 75 usually, but I thought the "norm" was closer to 100.

If your doctor was the one using the terminology of a biliopancreatic limb length of 50 - 75, run in the other direction and find a different doctor.

If, however, it is you using that terminology and you have confused the common channel with the biliopancreatic limb then that's a different matter and you are on your way to learning more about the DS.

Thank you for the info, I appreciate it.  I checked DSFacts, but it was a little over my head.  I think once I know more, more of the technical documention will make sense to me.

If you mean common channel -- shorter is more aggressive.  This is the length of small intestine in which the food and the pancreatic juices will be in contact with each other.

For the biliopancreatic limb -- longer is more aggressive.  This is the length of small intestine that will not see any food at all.

The alimentary limb is the length of the intestine that carries food, but no bile.  Some stuff can be absorbed here, but not as well as it will be in the common channel.

Alimentary + bilio + common channel = entire small intestine

So in that picture posted by Inge, is the section pointed out as the digestive loop the alimentary?

Thanks,

Dana
