Weight Loss Surgery Directory

Typical food log 3,4,5+ yrs post op???

I posted this in main forum but meant to put it here.

What's everyone eating typically these days?

Porttions?? And Calder/protein/carbs??
If I'd known you'd be posting it here, I wouldn't have posted it there.  I'm sure a few are falling out of their chairs from what I eat daily.

Didn't realize I posted it there and then couldn't figure out how to delete it lol
Oh, don't delete it! Pre-ops really NEED to see how the typical DSer gets to eat. (*grin*)
i eat what I perceive a normal person would eat, although I am heavier on the fats and lighter on the carbs. I can tolerate a small ommount of any carb but don't want to overdo it because I am starting to regain.

I'm 4yr and 3 months and have not had any regain (knock on wood.)

I've never counted anything although I had  pretty good feel for that stuff going into this.  I guess in the beginning I used to kind of check that I had 4 groups of 30 g of protein per day.

I'm lazy and don't usually do much formal cooking except for making pulled pork and chicken broth and also grilling outside.  I mostly like plates of meat and cheese.  And snacks of nuts and greek yogurt.  Lately I've been on a corn on the cob kick (that's corn on the cob with an equal amount of butter!)  Sometimes I do baked potatoes or broccoli. I drink Lactaid milk and sometimes make a soy shake.  Dessert is usually frozen yogurt or Hershey's chocolate.
I think we are all quite different. I tend to be a bit of a lightweight in what I eat even at 4 years post-op. Here is a typical day for me lately:

1 large protein shake with coffee, heavy cream and 2 scoops protein (50 grams worth)
1 can of progresso soup, about 16 grams of protein, for lunch
2 sticks of string cheese and a small handful of mixed nuts for snack
Half a chicken breast and veggies or salad for dinner
Maybe some chips or popcorn for snack

Yesterday I had my protein shake, an arby's small roast beef sandwich with 1/2 the bun, 3/4 of a small fry, smoked gouda cheese dip and pita chips, and 2 glasses of wine ... that was it for the day. I don't eat a lot most of the time.

I'm trying to pick up the protein on a daily basis and some days go better for me. It depends on what food I've got in the house. The more protein I have in the house the more I eat of it.
 I eat a LOT!

Today.....

Breakfast:   Two fried eggs and four smoky links
Lunch:         Two small bowls of posole (pork shoulder and hominy soup)
Snack:         Potato chips
Dinner:        Frito pie - chili, cheese, sour cream, over a small amount of corn chips
**    I'm about to have some cheese or greek yogurt before heading off to bed

I eat pretty slowly, and sometimes eat half of a meal then more later.     I also snack quite a bit, but did not as much today, as I had time to eat slowly, and thus consume more in a meal.

I know I will get in trouble for this, but I don't even bother with a food log until about two weeks before my dietitian/ surgeon visit. My surgeon does a 5 year follow, an I suspect it is for research purposes.  I did sign a consent form for that as part of my pre-op paperwork.

I didn't t mind at all.  The world needs to know about this surgery, and the lives it saves from SMO!

I don't usually log but I need to provide my surgeon with it as well and I was curious what others were eating
I'll be 6 years out this week, here was yesterday:

B - 2 eggs, 1 slice cheese, slice of ham all on an english muffin.  Coffee with half and half.

L - Yogurt and cottage cheese.  Equal portions, 6oz. each, mixed together.

S - 2 Slices deli roast beef, few FIsh crackers.

D - 2 or 3 (can't remember)  Ribs, few bites of the baked beans, mac and cheese and cole slaw.

S - Handful of peanut M&M's, 1 donut.

Before bed - Greek yogurt

I don't count carbs, just try to get 3 or 4 good protein meals in each day.  I have had a 10 pound gain over the last 3 years.  5'6" and today I weighed 144 pounds.

Wow! Now there's a blast from the past!  We met in San Fran when we both were having our DS!!! I think you had your brother with you??? I had my DS on February 22, 2008.

I see from your post about the limbs that things might not be going so well for you right now. I am sorry! I hope things work out for you. Please talk to Dr. Rabkin if you have not, already.

As to your question, here is a day of food for me, what I ate last Friday:

B: (made a breakfast sandwich)
8 pieces of bacon
2 eggs
2 pieces of cheese
2 pieces of sour dough bread
Diet Coke

L: 2 beef tamales with sour cream
Diet Coke

D: Chicken Kiev
mashed potatoes with lots of butter and cheese

S: some cookies and milk

I seem to eat what a "normal" woman eats, but with more fat. I try to keep my carbs reasonable, but reasonable seems to be on a sliding scale. If my weight creeps up a couple pounds, I get vigilant on my carbs and the pounds go away. I try to get 80-100 g of protein a day.

Hope this helps!

Hi Nicolle!!

Its been a LONG time!! Glad to hear things are going well.

I'm in touch with Dr. Rabkin's office, although Dr. Rabkin has never spoken with me.  I have been thinking of going with Dr. K because of this but we shall see. :)

I eat much more then most post on here lol so I see where my problem begins!
As long as I get my protein in every day, I eat whatever else I want. It's just that I eat about 2 bites of it, because I still get full very quickly.
