proferrin forte

Looking for some info on proferrin forte. I currently take vitron-c which says it is 65 elemental iron. I was told proferrin forte was better but I noticed it is only 12 elemental iron.. does this mean you have to take 5 proferrin forte to make 1 vitron-c??? that sounds wrong.. proferrin forte is a perscription medication seems it would be stronger than vitron-c an OTC

Proferrin is just a totally different form of iron. You can take up to 5 a day if your iron labs are bad but I always had better luck using 300mg of carbonyl iron and then taking 1 or 2 Proferrin at a different time. The combo worked very well.  When I was bringing mine up I used Vitalady's Tender iron in tablet form, not the capsule. It has a buffer in it that seemed to help but I did have to work up to the full dose very slowly.

I see. Do you think taking 2 vitron-c c instead would work?  Or do you think taking the 2 different ones work better. I have heard now from several ppl who seem to take both

Using a combo worked best for me. I would try both for 6 months and see if you can be retested to check for changes.

Unfortunately the rule of comparing elemental iron amounts doesn't work when you are comparing heme iron (proferrin) and non-heme iron (carbonyl, ferrous sulfate, etc). I haven't seen anyone taking more than 2 proferrin a day but I'm not really sure how you would determine the right dose for heme iron but you and Gina are right most people take a combination to see if they get a better bang that way.
