Does he still have his appendix?

Looks like a base of red with a darker glaze on top which has been applied then partially removed with a rag.  Home Depot or Lowes can tell you for sure.

Good luck, Kelly!  I'll be heading that way in a few months also.  Lisa
Topic: RE: Stupid Question About Birth Control and Antibiotics
The IUD increased the vaginal mucosa which the experts think is the reason it works to prevent pregnancy.  The Mirena contains hormones which help control break-through bleeding which some women get with the IUD.  The anitbiotics may affect the hormone portion of the Mirena but not the actual mechanism of the IUD itself.  Be aware however, that you can still get pregnant with an IUD although is is a rare occurrence.  We had two IUD pregnancies in my clinic last year.

I'll bet you have a sinus infection.  I suggest you see your PCP and get on some antibiotics.  Bad ones can take three or more weeks of treatment to resolve--my daughter had them and short-term tx. didn't work.

Tassia,
To have raised such a special young man is a testiment to what a good mother you are.  I have a high-functioning grandson with Aspergers and I know how hard my daughter works with him.  She is a great mother, too.

My hat goes off to you, my daughter and all the wonderful moms raising special kids.  I'm so glad you got that reassurance from your mom--you certainly deserve it!!

Topic: RE: Overseas Surgeon Advice & General Help, please
Hi, Raven,
I am in the planning stages to have the DS with Dr. Marchesini in Brazil.  He quoted me a price of $11,323 (or 21000 reals) for the open surgery and $14,020 (or 26000 reals) for lap.  (U.S. prices depend on the going exchange rate.)  Required pre-op testing, airfare and hotel not included.

He's been really great about getting back to me every time I've emailed him and very willing to answer my questions no matter how mundane.  I've met several people who have used him for their DS and have heard only wonderful things about him.  So, despite some trepidation about going out of the U.S. I really feel this is the best choice for me.

Hope this helps.  Good luck with what ever decision you make!

Janina--
I'm not getting a whole lot of support from anyone other than my husband either, and that took so time and lots of talking.  I have to give credit to the Orlando DS support group who welcomed us in and shared their stories, both good and not so good.  Eventually my husband was convinced and came around to my way of thinking.  Now he's pushing to pick a date.  Perhaps you might try a similar tactic.

Good luck!

Topic: RE: I will be self pay. Can someone tell me about Dr. Marchesi in Brazil?
Sandra--
I admit I did not read all the responses to your original post but if this can be of help Dr. Marchesini's email is how you reach him. (He does not have web site due to Brazilizian laws regarding doctors advertising their services.)  He is very responsive and will get back to you within a day or two with lots of information about the cost of surgery, his care, etc.  His email is jbmarchesini@gmail.com

I'm going through the same struggles for the very remote possibility they will pick up a portion of the cost for the DS, which my HMO does not cover.  I have to keep reminding myself if they do it will be worth it.  Frankly, I'm sick of it.

Topic: RE: Dr. Marchesini - Info and patient reviews?

Mdae--
I have been in contact with Dr Marchesini recently regarding the DS.  He quoted me the following (the Brazilian Real is their currency):
 Open DS--  R21000= $11,323
 Lap DS-- R 26000= $14,020

These prices are based upon the exchange rate and are current as of this AM.

His email address is jbmarchesini@hotmail.com

He has been very responsive every time I have emailed him and very forthcoming in answering all my questions.  So far I have been very impressed.

Hope this is helpful.  He has a very loyal following and I'm certain some of his patients will willingly share their stories.  Best of luck to your sister.

I'm self-pay, too.  You may also want to check out Dr. Marchesini in Brazil.  If you email him he will get back to you within a day or two with answers to any of your questions.

Good for you for taking the next step to being well!  You already know it won't be easy, but as with so many things breaking the inertia is the hardest part.  I wish you much success!
