Hi all, I had great success with my band initially and eventually succeeded in loosing more than 200 lbs and was at goal.  The last 30-50 pounds were lost in a very unhealthy way.  I puked all the time and ended up having emergency surgery to have my band removed Sept. 19, 2008.  I have regained from below 180 up to 220.  I am trying to decide whether to have a second band placed or have the gastric sleeve.  Sinc e weight loss was not my problem, puking was, I dont' think I need the malabsorption but I sure am scared of the sleeve.  Anyonne with similiar issues please reply.

If the same thing starts to happen with the again, then they will not be able to remove the sleeve as easily as the band.

I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer.

I don't believe they can remove a sleeve.  Maybe modify it to a RNY or even Band it, but no such thing as removing it to my knowledge.

    Thanks, Corliss

I think you might not understand a sleeve.  It is a permanent procedure.  There is nothing to "remove" to revise to the original surgery.

The band got me to goal, the sleeve will keep me there.  From a size 22/24 to a size 4.

Ok... this is a late response to an old convo. I understand the sleeve procedure, but spoke wrong. I just meant that it wouldn't really be able to revise it (like she said it could be made into in RNY) if the vomiting started again. She was worried about the vomiting.

Sure she could.  After a sleeve she could revise to a malabsorptive procedure if need be.

The reason for the vomiting with a band is because with a band you have a stoma.  WIth a sleeve there is no stoma, just a small stomach.  That's why there isn't so much vomiting with a sleeve.  We don't really get stuck or the other things that happen with a band.  I suppose if I swallowed a golf ball size piece of food it would be stuck, but I can't swallow something that big anyway.

Wow... hostility from a person I don't even know.  I don't care how old the thread is, if the person still has the same problem and someone like you is giving out wrong information... twice, sure.. It should be discussed.

We are what we are.  I may have lost the weight but I still have the fat mentaility.  It is what it is.

I hope you have a better "rest" of the day and can begin caring about your "peers".  Is that more PC?

Since you feel the need to mommy button posts, I think you need to get over thinking you know everything, don't contact me again.

You aren't worth my time to block, so stop stalking me, OR maybe we should take this to the R&R board so I can really tell you what I think of you.

I'm already having a good day, but thank you very much anyway.

Next time don't give wrong information and you won't have to worry about getting so frustrated with corrections.

I am newly banned, so I can't speak from experience but I would recommend the VSG (sleeve).  The VSG was my first choice but insurance wouldn't pay for that because they still consider it experimental.  My doctor wanted me to have the VSG or the RNY because of my diabetes but I opted for the realize band.  I know many people from the VSG forum that did extremely well with little or no complication.  There is only one girl that had a leak and got infected.  It is a middle of the road procedure that reduces the hunger hormone (ghrlein).  The only supplement necessary is B-12 and you can usually eat any type of food, just not much of it.  I suggest going for the sleeve with an experienced surgeon.  Good luck with your decision.  Greg

Thanks Greg.  I hope you have as good success with your band as I did early on.  I loved my band as long as all was going well.  It is  a wonderful tool.  I think the Realize may be an improvement over the old Inamed.

    Have a Happy New Year!

Hi, I have no experience of wls (yet) but I read a yahoo board with lots of messages from Australian people who had converted from band to sleeve.  They seemed pretty happy.  I think im gonna go for the VSG.  Best of luck with whatever you decide.

I would have one of the newer bands and this time pay attention and have small unfills to avoid the puking.  You know better than that and saw the result of what can happen.

I wouldn't waste any more time either, you don't want to gain any more weight.  It won't be too difficult to lose what you need, and it will be safer.  Why cause yourself any more potential health problems with the sleeve.

    Carole
