My first was 8 months out , but I waited too long to get started. You are awesome for thinking about it this early out. Just ease your way into things and enjoy it.

You should be able to do a 5K by T-giving Day, but my only advice would be to take it EASY if you plan to do it!  I had to travel on business 2 1/2 weeks post-VSG, and found that fatigue was still a big issue.  GOOD LUCK!

I did my first 5k 6 months post op. It took me 33:21. I was down 111 pounds when I did it, I started running 2 months post op when I lost my first 50 pounds.

My first (and only so far) was 8 months out to the day, and I'd lost somewhere in the area of 78-80 lbs. from my highest. about 12 lbs. less than that from day of surgery.  I'd been expecting to have a time of around 38 minutes, but unfortunately it was one of those days where running just did not feel good, and I ended up with a 39:45.

Do it, even if you walk the whole thing it'll leave you with a huge sense of accomplishment early out, and it'll be FUN!!

I did my first 5k right at 5 months post op, (May surgery, October 5K) I did it in 36:02 and was very happy with that!  I started my training in August when I got under 200 lbs, just because that was a deal I had made with myself.  Good luck!

my first 5k was right at 7 month post-op, i finished between 28 and 29 minutes (not sure of the precise time).  I was able to run my first mile straight 4 months post-op after a lot of cross training on cardio equipment in the gym, i don't remember how many lbs i had lost by then.
Where are we going??  And why am I in this handbasket??

right now.  somewhere.  somebody is working harder than you.

How long after you surgery did you do your 1st 5K walk/run? Ran my first 5K 4.5 mo after surgery.
How long did it take you? It took me 41:30
how much weight were you down when you did it(optional)???? I was at 227, so about 65 pounds down.

I started training with couch to 5k program 3 mo post surgery starting at 250 pounds.

I would walk it and not worry about time. It is an accomplishment no matter what. You set out to do something different and healthy and that makes you awesome!

I didn't do a 5k right away, I did a 2 mile run within 4 months, and a 10k on Thanksgiving, so it was right about 10 months after my surgery.

My goal was 12 minute miles so 36 minutes.  For me I chose that speed because that is basically the slowest speed I can do without considering it walking.  I wanted to jog or run the entire distance without stopping.

Personal goals are great, and just by signing up and trying you will be a success.
If you don't make your own time goal, at least you will have a basis to work from.

The first time you try anything, it's going to be a personal record for you.  The next time if you are so inclined, you can work towards beating your previous best.

Good luck and best wishes.
