I am about 2 1/2 weeks post-op and need to start getting into a habit of moving a lot more.  Here is my situation.  I have a cast (w/ walking boot) on my right foot that has been there for several months and I have a prostetic leg on the left.

Would I get any type of value from setting a timer and walking in my home 2 or 3x a day for 20 minutes at the time?  I am going to be in the cast for about three more weeks so I know I shouldn't wait long.

When the cast comes off I will be joining a fitness center because the surgeon that did my surgery gives his patients a complementary 3 month membership at the fitness center affiliated with the local hospital.

    Thanks,

    Mallory

Any movement is good movement. Do what you can now and build n it when you can.

    Best of luck!

Any movement is good.  Plus it gives you the opportunity to start making a habit out of it.
When the exercise becomes a habit you just do it, it's part of your day/life

Good luck and keep us up on how it's going for you.

Yes!! Move.....move more....and then some more!

Have you talked with your doctor about EXCERSIZE?
I know that I have had to think "outside the box" on how to get movement in.

You are on the right path of thinking!

    Hugs,

I'm with the others, movement is good, but you are fresh out of surgery- so be gentle with your body. Most folks aren't cleared to do more than walk for the first 6 wks, so check with your doc about that.

    Good Luck,

You can get samples of my favorite Protein drink About Time Birthday Cake flavor here: www.shopabouttime.com/ProductDetails.asp It has ZERO carbs, gluten, sugar, fat, lactose, artificial sweeteners but it's absolutely delicious!!! I don't work for them, but I want them to stay in business forever- as I need these! :)

Also any elastic band will be good at home...You can find different exercises on Youtube or elsewhere...Below is an idea.  I used these bands for the first few weeks after surgery, since I wasn't allowed to lift more than 20 pounds...Just be creative with these things.  You can find these things at any sporting goods store...
