Hey All,

I'm 25 months post RNY. In the past month, I've gained 8lbs, 3lbs in one week. Now the humidity is so bad, I can't move my ring. I've also started walking 2.8 mi in 45 min. I started this about 3 weeks ago and the terrain varies. I walk atleast 3 times a week. I lost most of my muscle tone from spending December to June mostly in bed die to a car accident in surgeries. Do you think these 8lbs could be a combo of muscle mass & water weight or do you think I'm heading down a slippery slope?  Be honest, I can take it 😁. My pants still fit fine

I doubt it is muscle mass.  Muscle does not weigh more than fat.  One lb of fat and one lb of muscle weigh the same.  The difference is that 20 lb of muscle looks less dense than 20 lbs of fat.  That said, it is quite unlikely that you have built up 8 lbs of muscle walking.  That said, if your clothes fit fine, it is likely water retention.  Hard to say, though.  Have you been more lax in your food choices?

I'm tracking my caloric intake much more carefully than before. I was always under the 1500 mark but I'm aiming to be under the 1200 now

The average woman can put on 1 pound of muscle a month if she works out with strength training and works hard at it.

It is possible to gain 4-5 pounds of water weight in a matter of a week, if you aren't drinking enough and the weather is hot. But not 4-5 pounds of muscle in a  short time unless you are taking steroids.

So maybe some water weight and maybe some other stuff. Best to track your exercise and food and look for patterns.

This is an equal concern for me. I just need a stronger will power to overcome this. We should be faithful on little things that will eventually help us with bigger results.

Thank you all for your encouragement. I am back down on the scale and working on three more pounds. I assume it's all water weight, since NH has been like a rainforest with the humidity. It finally dropped last night and I guess my weight did too! Still going to track my calories for a while

Your malabsorption is now complete as well. Bounce-back is normal. And it sucks :-)
