5k #3!

Today was my 3rd 5k and I'm super pleased. I was aiming for a personal record, but I missed it by 7 seconds. I know why, and I know that I could have gotten under 50 minutes if I hadn't been nice and paced with someone I met who was slower. The knowledge that I could have done this is enough to make me feel really proud and successful!

I also had a good experience waiting for R to finish his marathon. I splurged for the VIP pass and was in a nice semi-heated tent. I got to chat with other runners and it was pretty fantastic.

I really, really like the running community. The only competition is against oneself which makes it super welcoming. I love that there are people of all shapes, sizes, ages, and abilities. I've never felt judged or slighted even by the fastest and longest distanced runners. Races are an unbelievably amazing time. I'm so grateful that I can be a part of them now!

Next up, local running festival in 4 weeks! Under 50 here I come!

Hi Gwen...

Congrats on your 3rd 5K!! Nice that you paced with someone sure that was a gratifying part of race as well.

I also agree about the running community....it has to be one of the most compassionate and caring group of athletes I have encountered. EVERYONE is doing it for a variety of reasons but usually are very gracious to help in any way possible...

Good luck next month!

Yours in WLS Journey,

Bill Mac

Yep, did the half. The cruddy rain only made me 3 min slower than when I did it 2 years ago but getting on to the metro at Stadium Armory was a fiasco, even for DC/MD standards!

That's great for your time!

We probably left much later, since my partner did the marathon.  The lines for the machines were crazy at the metro, but we didn't have a problem since we had money on our cards.

Congrats!  You are an inspiration to me.  I will be doing my first 5K next month.  My plan is to mostly walk with an occasional jog.
