drinking the tri kool-aid

Just signed up for my first tri event: Manassas mini tri, on June 7th. Oh my..... It's an easy distance (250 swim, 4mi bike, 1.5mi run), so I'm not worried about the "can" I do it, but how I'll do on transitions. Up to 12 mi on the bike, swam up to 2000mts, and not even gonna mention running.. But never done all 3 consecutively in a tri suit! Those that own tri suits: what do you wear underneath? I've got a Sugoi sleeveless suit but it'd need a sportsbra underneath, at the very least. Or is it better to wear a swimsuit under?

Congratulations on entering your first tri. You'll do great, especially since it is a mini and way below your athletic ability.

Wear nothing under the tri suit, except like you mentioned if your suit doesn't have a built in bra feature. Wet and moving underwear or a swimsuits not meant for running, are terrible. If you suit is a little see through they make these white seamless garments to go underneath but I have near used them. Make sure you get a sports bra designed for a tri or at least one for running (which I am sure you already have) and make sure to "test" it out with the suit before hand and a little wet.   I find that the suits compression sometimes makes, even my favorite, sport bras uncomfortable.

Also if you will be wearing a wet suit, I prefer one piece tri suits.  I hate my stomach and back extra skin hanging out as I transition. But one suits are a terrible when you have to use the bathroom. Personal preferences.

Remember to have fun and practice those transitions. I have a problem with running and taking off the wet suit. I haven't quit mastered that yet. Fine, I have a problem with all the transitions but I tri! Ok, bad joke.

Let us know how it goes. Good luck!

What do you wear under a TriSuit?  Lube and Anti-Chafe Lotion.  Some women wear a GOOD LOCK THE GIRLS IN PLACE sports Bra.

Your tri suit is designed to Dry Quickly so don't worry about that.

Transition for a sprint (less is better)

Towel - This is to mark your territory. Set it up to the right of your front tire between your bike and the next bike (As you are looking at your bike)

From the back of the towel to the front

Run: Shoes, Hat, Number Belt

Bike: Shoes Set on your bars or hang from your bile Helmet and Sunglasses gloves optional

Water Bottle on bike shoes (Rinse your feet off prior to going in Bike shoes.

I lay my stuff out night before and do a check. Be sure to have repair kit or extra tube and CO2 in case of flat.  And pu****er bottles in cages before you rack.

You come out of the swim throw your cap and goggles down  squirt your feet put your shoes on grab bike and run to Mount Line.

Don't sweat it you will do great.  If you want I will find or take a pic of my Transition setup for you.

When I say less is better it really is.  At the Him on Sunday the only thing I had in addition to those listed above was Socks for run and Nutrition bottle for run.

Good post! The only other thoughts I had were as you exit the water unzip the wetsuit, take cap and goggles off holding them in one hand pull your arm out of the suit. Your cap and goggles will be safely held inside the arm of your wetsuit. You also need to decide if you want to wear socks. I prefer to ride and run in them and the extra 30 sec in the first transition doesn't matter to me.

A good way to practice transitions is to spin around in a circle like a kid till you get dizzy and then run to your gear and get ready to ride your bike😃

Great advice from everyone! My first super sprint is now May 31st (rescheduled from the 17th). It is 200 swim, 5.5 mile bike, and 2.2 mile run. I have a one piece tri suit, and I think it is tight enough to wear without a sports bra underneath.

Good luck on yours!! I'm sure you will do great!! :)
