I'm doing a 5k in 10 days and I've only been training for it for a few weeks. Today I walked/jogged  2.65 miles in 45 minutes,  but the last 1/2 a mile the three middle toes on my right foot cramped and it was horrible.

Now I'm afraid is going to happen during the race. Any runners have advice about how to avoid that in the future?

It really depends on what's causing the cramps.  Could be your shoes are a little too tight and are squeezing the toes.  Could be your feet were just swollen that day and made the shoes seem smaller.  Could also be you don't have enough electrolytes in your system.  I know I have to stay on top of my electrolytes when I run because 1) it gets hot here and I sweat buckets, and 2) I drink so much water, I flush a lot out.  Or it could be something completely different.  When you start running more you find that things will pop up for no reason and disappear just as fast.  Something different about the stride that day or who knows.  Sorry for the paragraph long "I have no idea."

add some magnesium to your supplements. It could also be Mortons Neuroma.

How much water are you drinking?  Could be not enough or it could be to much.  If you drink to much water it will throw your electrolytes out of whack.  Try adding Nuun to a water bottle prior to your run, don't over do it.

The way to tell if you need electrolyte supplements on this distance is to see how crusty you and your clothes are.  Lots of noticeable white crust is salt loss.
